Japanese iPhone cases cost more than an iPhoneThe Japan Texture series of cases for the iPhone are certainly beautiful if you are into the Japanese style. Downright awesome. Why wouldn’t you want to park your iPhone in one? Well, there are a few reasons. These cases cost more than your actual phone, for one.

Plus, they are covered in lacquer and gold dust, which is sure to come off in a matter of minutes. But if you have some disposable income, the series consists of five case designs that depict art of the Sengoku period. They also come with a storage box and each of the handmade cases takes roughly three weeks to make.

Shoulderbrella is a hands free umbrella

Shoulderbrella is a hands free umbrellaUmbrellas are a pain to use. It’s like your umbrella is holding your hand hostage, keeping you from doing important tasks like texting, fixing your hair or flipping some dude off. If only you had use of that hand while keeping the rain off of yourself.

Well now you can go hands free thanks to Japanese Superstore Tokyu Hands and the Shoulderbrella. Just unscrew the end of your umbrella and stick it into the Shoulderbrella. Then just wrap it around one or both of your shoulders like a harness.

Music Cage bluetooth speaker

Music Cage bluetooth speakerJapanese company Nendo has designed this wireless home speaker that matches the crazy old lady decor of white lace and bird cages everywhere. It also works via Bluetooth and is available in black or white. Guess which one your grandmother would choose. The Music Cage comes in just one size with some retro chrome switches like in the old days.

It can be displayed on a table or suspended from the ceiling. If you gift one of these to your grandma, expect a call asking where her bird went and why she can’t get in to put newspaper on the bottom.

Star Trek Enterprise Record Player

Star Trek Enterprise Record PlayerThis Star Trek Enterprise record player was designed from the NCC-1701 version from the new Star Trek movie and uses the saucer section as the turntable, sending your music where no man has gone before. Sadly it’s not real and was just designed to make us all drool, along with 24 other funky looking Enterprises.

There’s an Enterprise on roller skates, a creepy insect Enterprise and more. You’ll never look at the ship in the same way again. Look, I’m a dork and I really want this Enterprise record player. So somebody create it already.

Redbox debuts $2 video game rentalsIf you’re a fan of Redbox and have been hoping for some video game rentals kiosks, then you will love this news. It’s happening. For $2 a night, you can rent games for Nintendo DS, Wii, PS2 and 3, and Xbox 360. That’s not a super awesome price compared to Blockbuster, but it’s not bad.

Right now the game selections are slim, but that should improve quickly, so no worries. At the moment it’s only in the Reno, Nevada area. But like their selection of games it should expand in no time.

You can even allocate bandwidth to various activities based on user preferences. One feature that we really love is the ability to support 24/7 downloads without a computer running.

Palm Pre gets virtual keyboard

Palm Pre gets virtual keyboardLets take a moment to honor coders, those genius nerds that do the impossible every day. Their latest trick? They’ve stumbled upon a pre-alpha on-screen keyboard for the Palm Pre that was cleverly hidden away in the depths of webOS.

Portrait or landscape version doesn’t matter, the native keyboard will be available, compatible with virtually any app and every field. Most are likely used to the QWERTY keyboard available on the Palm Pre, but if you like virtual better, then this is pretty awesome.

Apple Tablet image leaked?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on August 15th, 2009

Apple Tablet image leaked? Here’s the latest “leaked” image of Apple’s upcoming tablet. Images hit the net this morning. It’s likely fake, though it comes from a French blog with a decent track record. The image certainly jibes with the iPhone/iPod touch and iMac, and with the rumors we’ve heard. But the thing that jumps out at us is the placement of the home key, which is odd.

You’ll also notice OS X on the display. Analysts have been guessing that the device would run some version of the iPhone OS. What do you think? Fake? Or the real deal?

Verizon BOGO Blackberry promotion is backIf you are considering picking up a BlackBerry, why not get two while you are at it? Verizon is kicking off their “Buy One, Get One” promotion. Apparently the deal covers not only a second BlackBerry but a netbook, PC card, USB modem or MiFi.

As is usually the case, you’re getting the cheapest item free and it’s rebate-based, so you will have to pay for both devices and then wait with baited breath for your check to arrive in the mail. Apparently the promotion starts today and runs through until October 10th.
