Thanko Silent Keyboard EX

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

Thanko Silent Keyboard EXThanko wants to help keep your environment silent with an update to their Silent Keyboard with an EX attached on the end instead of a shhhhh. They’ve cut 16.5 dB from the sound of the keyboard and to them that equals $52.79.

Seems a tad pricey for any keyboard, silent or not. But if quiet is your bag and all of that clickety-clack is getting on your nerves, why not give it a shot? It will take your money just as quietly as it operates.

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

LG GW300 QWERTY phone for Facebook and e-mailLG has announced an entry-level messaging handset in the LG GW300. It comes pre-loaded with Facebook, letting you poke your friends to your hearts content. Some other features include a full QWERTY keypad, a 2.4” 240×320 QVGA display, stereo Bluetooth connectivity, USB 2.0 alongside 2.5G GSM, GPRS/EDGE network support.

No 3G here. Why they wouldn’t throw in Wi-Fi support in absence of 3G we have no idea. No word on the camera’s megapixels either, but you shouldn’t expect too much considering that this one is on the cheaper side.

Hang your keys on your key

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

Hang your keys on your keyMy friends, keychain technology has just changed forever. Since the dawn of time we have been hanging our keys on plain round rings. Sometimes with a charm or something attached, but a plain old ring nonetheless.

Behold the key that shall hold your keys from this day forward. It’s a real working blank key that can be cut by any key cutter to fit KW1 or SC1 keys. Just $7 for two of them. Keys will never be the same.

Eee lights up when you get a message

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

Eee lights up when you get a messageSure, lights on your notebook are nothing new, but they don’t really do anything useful. This mod, on the other hand, puts a 3-color LED on an Asus Eee 901 that shows you when you have incoming messages. All it takes is an extra microprocessor and some custom scripts.

The RGB LED displays a different color depending on whether it’s email, an IM or a tweet. We can only hope that this opens up the eyes of product designers. It would be nice to see something like this on an HP, Acer or Dell.

Microsoft’s Gazelle browser a Google Chrome OS competitor?

Posted in Browsers by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

Microsoft's Gazelle browser a Google Chrome OS competitor?Supposedly Microsoft is working on a Google Chrome OS counter. This could be the Gazelle browser, which wants to treat the browser itself more like an OS. The Gazelle prototype supposedly will to do things like protect webapps from each other, and isolate different browser tabs (like Google Chrome does and Firefox is going to do).

It’s just one of many research projects Microsoft is working on, but it would make sense for them to unveil this one next week, to show that they’re not taking a backseat to Google. It won’t replace IE, at least not for awhile.

You’ll also get a T-DMB TV tuner, 4GB of inbuilt memory, a microSDHC card slot, 3.2 megapixel camera, an e-dictionary and support for 7.2Mbps HSDPA. Now for the bad news. It looks like the phone is being reserved for the Korean market.

Amazon’s Kindle 2 now priced at $299

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

Amazon's Kindle 2 now priced at $299How time flies. It’s been about five months since Amazon introduced the Kindle 2 e-reader. To celebrate, or maybe just to move more units, the company has slashed $60 off of the price tag, giving it a US price of $299.

Now that it’s under $300, they should be able to move more of the devices. The e-reader market is getting more competitive, so it’s a good move. Question of the day. Now that the Kindle 2 is under $300, does it make up your mind to get one?

TV TrickleSaver cuts off game console power

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

TV TrickleSaver cuts off game console powerWe all know that some game consoles consume a whole lot more power than others. Wii won’t mention any names. TrickleStar knows this and so has introduced their TV TrickleSaver device aimed at cutting down on some of that wasted power consumption.

Just plug both your TV and game console into the device (it will also work with a power bar), and then the device does it’s thing, cutting off power to the game console when you shut off your TV. It even works with other devices other than game consoles. TrickleStar outs the PS3 as its primary target, with the Xbox 360 a close second.

Apple App Store Turns One

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on July 8th, 2009

appstore1I can remember feeling like I didn’t care much about the App Store when it was first launched. I really liked my iPhone, but I had never had a good gaming experience on a mobile phone and figured the App Store was not going to be that useful to me. My mind quickly changed when I saw how many apps there were and how well they worked for the most part.

It seems like the App Store has been around forever, but it is only officially turning one this week. The birthday for the App Store is this coming Saturday and Apple is already celebrating with lists of the top apps and other things.

Tripware books trips through Outlook 2007

Posted in Software by Shane McGlaun on July 8th, 2009

tripware-logo-sbI occasionally travel on business and have come to realize that booking a trip on most online services like Expedia is a pain. You have to sort through so many pages to find what you want and be sure that extras you don’t want aren’t being added on the sly to your total.

A new trip booking service aimed at business travelers called Tripware has been announced. The service is an Outlook 2007 plug-in that allows users to book trips directly from Outlook 2007. One of the coolest parts is that the plug-in remembers a user’s preferences like car rental info and hotel preferences.

Brammo electric motorcycle now available

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

BrammoThe Brammo Enertia electric motorcycle is finally available and officially on sale. It should be interesting to see how this sells. The eco-friendly bike features a horsepower rating of 13.7, 31 ft/lbs of torque and weighs about 280 pounds. The bike has a top speed of about 50 miles an hour, with a 45 mile range before requiring a 3 hour recharge.

USB powered chainsaw

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2009

isawWhen it comes to USB gadgets, it doesn’t get any cooler or deadlier than this. It’s a reminder that we can push USB technology further when it comes to power tools, whether for taking care of odd jobs or hacking a fake plastic tree.

Thank you usbchainsaw.com for showing us the way. Sure, it’s likely a hoax, but USB powered saws are something to aspire to. Office arguments can now end in dismemberment. And next time your secretary gets your coffee wrong…look out. Hit the link for a video.
