Nokia 3720 official, the “most rugged mobile handset to date”

Posted in Nokia by Conner Flynn on July 9th, 2009

nokiaNokia’s not a company that’s known for ultra-survivable and rugged gear, but I guess they figured out that rugged phones are a good idea. The 3720 candybar features a 2 megapixel cam with LED flash, triband EDGE, FM radio, microSD expansion, and Bluetooth 2.1.

The phone is built to meet IP54 standards. What this means is that “ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact”. That means that it may get dirty as anything, but it’ll keep functioning and it can also withstand “splashing” water.

Did an iPod set this Saab on fire?

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on July 9th, 2009

Did an iPod set this Saab on fire? We’ve all heard the tales of potential danger regarding iPods and fire. It’s often hard to sort the truth from rumor. Well here’s another cautionary tale. This one comes out of Sweden where a Saab 9-3 recently met a fiery end.

The official cause of the blaze hasn’t been figured out, but investigators strongly suspect that an iPod left in the car is the culprit. The car itself showed no signs of technical faults and there’s no evidence that the fire was intentionally set. Also, the fire started on the seats, where the iPod was apparently sitting.

Tour de France Chalkbot

Tour de France ChalkbotThe Tour de France is currently underway and Lance Armstrong is apparently returning to help promote his Livestrong campaign and raise cancer awareness. So Livestrong and Nike have teamed up to create the Chalkbot, a robotic chalk painter that will print messages along the path of the Tour de France.

If you want your own message printed just text ‘LIVESTRONG’ followed by your chalk message to 36453. They hope to print more than 100,000 messages over the course of the entire race. We like stories like this where robots are helping worthy causes instead of plotting our demise.

A company called ProClip USA has announced a new line of mobile phone holders that are vehicle specific for the iPhone 3GS and older iPhone models. The ProClip solution has two components. The first is the vehicle specific dash mount that attaches to the car dash.
