The black Wii has a black box

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on July 14th, 2009

Black Wii has a black boxThe elusive black Wii has shown itself off a few times recently and with the August 1st launch date in Japan approaching, its back in the spotlight. Now it’s showing off it’s sexy packaging.

Sure, it’s the same old box, just done up in black, but it makes the console all the more alluring, with a hint of mystery and danger. Like that time good girl Sandy from Grease suddenly transforms and rocks John Travolta’s world all dressed in black like a bad girl. Sadly we still have no word on a release date here, but we hope it happens soon.

Night Vision Goggles included with Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on July 14th, 2009

I love a good war game so as soon as I get a chance I plan to check out Modern Warfare 2. The game is generating a lot of buzz. After seeing this, I want to check it out even more. This is an unusual approach to selling a game and I think it might work.

The Prestige Edition will come with fully functioning night vision goggles. How cool is that? We don’t know yet how much the bundle will cost, but it will likely be pretty expensive. Even low-end NVGs can cost a few hundred bucks.

lexmarkaio-sbThe way to go when it comes time to buy a printer is an all-in-one. The devices take up less space and can print, copy, scan, and often fax as well. The only real downside is that if your AIO breaks you lose multiple devices rather than one.

Lexmark has announced two new all-in-one printers that are both wireless Internet capable with 802.11n connectivity built-in. The printers also both feature a 4.3-inch touchscreen that can show RSS feeds.

Blockbuster and Samsung team up for streaming content

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on July 14th, 2009

blockbuster-sbI think the future of movie rentals and purchases are in digital form. One day we will no longer trek to the movie store on Tuesdays when new movies are released on DVD. We will just hop on our Apple TVs or maybe even our Blu-ray players and rent the movies digitally.

Blockbuster and Samsung have announced that the two companies have signed an agreement that will provide access to streaming content from Blockbuster on select Samsung HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and home theater systems. The service is expected to debut this fall.

bbporthdradio-sbI have a Best Buy insignia brand home stereo that has an HD tuner built-in. You can tell a difference in the sound quality between FM and HD channels. The HD station is CD quality and offers clearer music. The big downside to HD Radio is that there aren’t as many stations in my area.

Best Buy has announced the first portable HD Radio player called the Insignia HD Radio Portable Player. The device is powered by an internal rechargeable lithium ion battery and has ten presets to store your favorite stations. The device also sports a 1.5-inch LCD screen for viewing channel information.

Working lighter/USB flash drive

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on July 13th, 2009

Working lighter/USB flash drivePutting your sensitive data near fire may not be the best thing in the world, but when that lighter/USB drive is branded with a dead cow skull, it sure is tempting. This gadget combines a Zippo-style metal refillable lighter with a 2, 4, or 8GB flash drive.

Obviously it won’t hold much lighter fluid/butane since most of the space is taken up by the USB drive. But if you are a geeky smoker who owns a ranch in Texas, this may be a great combo for you as it has both devices in one.

Acceleglove offers complex motion control for gaming

Posted in Controllers by Conner Flynn on July 13th, 2009

Acceleglove offers complex motion control for gamingMotion detection is all the rage in the video game industry now. From the Wiimote to the Wii MotionPlus add-on and even the accelerometer in the iPhone. The Acceleglove uses aspects from all to create an awesome gaming glove.

Using the Wiimote, you can make general movements but nothing specific, like finger movements and the like. The Acceleglove puts accelerometers in the fingers of the glove so you can make more complicated hand gestures. It was developed by AthroTronix and at the moment the Acceleglove can only detect some hand motions like say pinching. But the potential is huge.

The speaker will give you up to 800mWatt x 2ch, which should be enough for use in any small room. The Buffalo BSSP07 requires four AA batteries or a spare USB port to operate. Nothing on pricing just yet, but it shouldn’t cause you too much pain.
