Mac and Linux keycaps come to Das Keyboard

Posted in Keyboards by Shane McGlaun on July 16th, 2009

daskeyboard-sbThe Das Keyboard has been around for a while. The first time we saw it the keyboard was all black and had no letters or other symbols on it. That meant that the average geek who needed to see the keys and symbols the Das Keyboard wasn’t an option.

Not too long after it debuted, a new version of the Das Keyboard with letters and symbols on it was introduced. The company who makes the Das Keyboard announced today that Mac and Linux specific keycaps were now available for the Das Keyboard.

The keycaps include the Mac command, alt/option keys, and Linux keys with the image of Tux on them. The keyboard requires no drivers and the keycaps are available now. The keyboard itself has dual USB ports, glossy black surface, and gold-plated mechanical switches. The keyboard also has an extra long 6.6-foot cable.

The switches aren’t gold plated, only the contact points hidden inside are. Cherry* build the switches to last a long time so the gold is probably there to stop corrosion rather than anything more marketing friendly. The Cherry MX switches (clicky varient) are one of the most highly rated keyswitches though, so they are still premium even if they’re not gold plated.
