Posted in Remotes by Conner Flynn on June 11th, 2009

Monster MCC AV50 Home Theater ControllerThis new remote from Monster looks like a vintage Sci-Fi prop. The bad kind. You can almost hear the cheesy sound effects and bad soundtrack. Which is why I think this is awesome. The Monster MCC AV50 Home Theater Controller will be available next month for $50.

It’s a “tabletop universal remote control” with a “Web-based setup.” That means it’s super huge and has a simple onscreen setup.

Posted in Adesso by Shane McGlaun on June 11th, 2009

adessowkb-3100-sbWireless keyboards are great for some users. If you have a tiny desk no wires makes things less cluttered and you can use a wireless keyboard form across the room if you run a HTPC. Gamers tend to dislike wireless keyboards, but for general computer use they are fine.

Adesso has announced a new, and small wireless keyboard called the WKB-3000 that is less than 12-inches in size. Despite its small stature, the device has a full QWERTY keyboard and a track ball in the upper right corner.

Digital transition is tomorrow 2.8 million homes not ready

radioshackdtx9550-sb1I haven’t really worried about the digital transition; I have a newer TV and use satellite rather than watching over-the-air broadcasts. Many people are like me, but there are lots who will be affected by the digital transition. The big switch happens tomorrow.

According to Nielsen Company despite the fact that today is the last full day of analog TV broadcasts, 2.8 million homes across America are not ready for the digital transition. That number represents 2.5% of the entire TV viewing population around the country.

iphone3g-sb1Before I owned my iPhone, I had a Motorola Razr. I thought the Razr was a good phone and didn’t think I would ever need a smartphone. Once I tried out the iPhone, I knew that the Razr had really sucked and I didn’t have a clue what a smartphone could do for me. After well over a year with my iPhone, I will never go back to normal phones.

Lots of consumers are seeing the smartphone light it seems. Analytics firm Yankee Group has unveiled the latest trends in the mobile phone industry that show the smartphone is growing by leaps and bounds. According to the firm 41% of consumers say they will make a smartphone their next mobile device purchase.

Maverick Nica headset ships this summer

I’m never sure why so many products launch in the summer. I figure that for most people, especially if they have kids, the summer is when they are least likely to heave extra loot lying around to spend. Any parent knows that a kid can go through $100 worth of ice cream and juice boxes a day. Maybe all those single people are still buying.

Maverick has announced that its Nica Bluetooth headset will ship this summer. The device has a round design and no parts that fit into the ear canal. The maker says the design makes the headset more comfortable for extended wear and allows for the use of a larger speaker.

GPS Shoes keep track of Alzheimer’s Patients

Posted in GPS by Conner Flynn on June 10th, 2009

GPS Shoes keep track of Alzheimer’s PatientsAnyone who has ever had an older family member in their lives who has Alzheimers, knows how difficult it can be just to keep tabs on them. It’s sort of like having a small child. They tend to live in their own world and can wander off the instant you divert your attention.

Rather than having to keep searching for lost Alzheimer’s patients, Aetrex Worldwide and GTS Corp have teamed up to put GPS transmitters inside shoes. A simple and brilliant solution. A wristband might be even better as some won’t bother to put on their shoes.

Apple doubles RAM on iPhone 3G SThe S in iPhone 3G S means more than just faster 3G speeds, which is now 7.2 mbps, for the new iPhone. It also means a faster processor. But just how fast is the iPhone 3G S?

Well, thanks to T-Mobile we have the first official word on the iPhone 3G S processor: 256 RAM (that’s double the iPhone 3G) and a 600 Mhz processor. The chip is most likely built using a 45nm process, but that’s just a guess.

Palm Pixie Set To Run Palm’s Web OS

Posted in Palm by Conner Flynn on June 10th, 2009

Palm Pixie Set To Run Palm's Web OSSome clever fellows looking at the script files on the Palm Pre’s operating system have noticed that the Pixie name showed up, suggesting that Pixie would be on Palm’s new OS. Why not? It’s not really a shock that Palm would use and re-use the OS. They worked hard on it.

Still, it’s nice to know that the seemingly low-priced device will have most of the good stuff of its predecessor. The Pixie is supposed to come to AT&T in the US.
