Miyamoto: Super Mario Bros. Wii shows hardware limitations

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on June 4th, 2009

wii-sb1Well, we already knew that the Wii was weak compared to the other consoles. In Shigeru Miyamoto’s E3 2009 roundtable, the designer had a candid moment when discussing Wii hardware. Some might say he was a little too honest.

When talking about the New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Miyamoto said that since the game features four-player multiplayer and multiple camera views, the Wii’s processor is already being taxed pretty hard. Sounds like the Wii processor is already starting to show some limitations. Miyamoto also said that, “I would like to use Wii Speak more, but [in SMB] the Wii processor is already being taxed.”

Well, this doesn’t bode well for the Wii’s future, now does it? It’s already starting to fall behind while Sony and Microsoft are making breakthroughs.

HAHAHAHA!!! Did you write this with a straight face? Falling behind, hm?

    Lemme see…

    Wii – 50 mil.
    XBOX- 30 mil.
    PS3 – 22 mil.

So, where does this ‘falling behind’ thing come from? Nintendo has consistently proven that powerful hardware alone doesn’t sell systems.

I’m with someguy. Think of the Wii as an all-terrain 600cc motorbike. Yeah, it’s not as powerful as that 1500cc Harley Roadster, doesn’t fart nearly as loud either. But it’s a WHOLE lot more fun! These slipperB posts are just some dumb PS3 or Xbox360 fanboy fantings.

Wii will always have it’s own market because everyone of their consoles comes with motion control, unlike 360/PS3′s “break-through”. The thing with Wii is that the graphics really are a minus in the system, but that is why its cheap, and that is part of the reason they have the biggest market share. Ppl want fun more than graphics. I wouldn’t worry until nintendo’s next gen.

I always agreed that graphics are not the break point however now its not about graphics. Its a functionality of game-play (online) not existing due to hardware.

I don’t care it has graphics of the Mario from DS. But if SSBB has online please explain why this doesn’t.

Also Monster hunter will also have online and more processing needed for full 3D.

Im guessing its that Walkthgrouht functionality for baby gamers that is wasting all the processor.
