Sony Vaio P sheds Vista for XP

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on May 26th, 2009

vaiop-sbSony showed off its new Vaio P back in January at CES 2009. The little machine was nice looking, but the odd size that is long and thin left a bit to be desired in my book. The screen was freakishly narrow and wide making for some strange font sizes.

Sony has now announced that it is shedding Vista as the OS of choice for the expensive Vaio P and going with Windows XP. I think the addition of Vista to begin with was a way for Sony to justify that the P wasn’t a netbook — which it is.

Going to XP should make the little rig more responsive since we all know Vista is a resource hog on a netbook. And for the record, the Vaio P is a netbook no matter what Sony says. Sony is also said to be considering a 2GHz CPU and a 256GB SSD as options for the little machine as well.

Applause for Sony! Going from Vista to XP is like going from a really dark room to a lighter one,IMHO.
