Palm Pre to have Push GMail

Posted in Palm by Conner Flynn on May 27th, 2009

Palm Pre to have Push GMailMy Pre is reporting that a tipster with a webOS emulator has found that the Pre will use IMAP IDLE. This means that users on GMail will have near instantaneous reception of new emails. Because it’s getting pushed to the phone from the GMail servers.

Pre users are going to love that. At the moment, the only phone to support GMail push is the G1 (and soon the HTC Magic or any other Android device). Palm’s relationship with Google is proving to be extremely awesome for Pre users.

That is great news. Another reason that folks are going to love the Pre.

I’ve enjoyed push email by way of IMAP IDLE from gmail (and other email providers) for over two years now on my Palm Treo and Centro using the ChatterEmail client.

My wife has a Samsung Instinct and it has push Gmail. I know, it was a surprise to me too! Pre rocks!

YES!!! I just transferred schools and lost my ms exchange account. I was worried I was going to lose my push technology. Sooooo pumped the pre will support it for gmail.

  4. James Says:

Many phones are supporting push gmail. Including my 2 year old helio ocean.

Not a new idea or service.
