Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 hits milestone

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on May 6th, 2009

codmappackI am a big Call of Duty fan and while I prefer Modern Warfare to the World War II setting, the most recent Call of Duty: World at War game was lots of fun. I don’t like to play my shooters on consoles personally; I stick to the PC for this type of game.

Lots of gamers prefer console systems though and Activision has announced today that Map Pack 1 for Call of Duty: World at War has hit a milestone. The pack has been downloaded over 2 million times combined on Xbox Live and the Sony Playstation Store.

WindCube 60kW rooftop wind turbine debuts

Posted in Generator by Shane McGlaun on May 6th, 2009

windcube-sbGenerating power by free methods is the Holy Grail for the green power movement. For consumers it could one day mean that we get power for our homes and gadgets for free from the sun or the wind. Wind power is controversial because the massive wind turbines are ugly and make the area where they are installed look bad to some people.

A company called Green Energy Technologies has announced a new wing-generating power plant that is designed to be fitted onto the roof of a building. The WindCube can be installed in singles or as a pair. A single unit generates 60kW of power while a dual unit generates 120kW.

Livescribe smartpen gets pencast capability

Posted in Pens by Shane McGlaun on May 6th, 2009

livescribepulse-sbI know a few people who swear by the Livescribe smartpen. The device stores digital copies of handwritten notes and can record audio notes at the same time. I have never used the pen myself, but the problem for me I think would be that I have horrible handwriting. I would end up with printed notes I can’t read and digital notes I can’t read at the same time.

Livescribe has announced a new feature for its smartpen called Pencasts. The feature allows anyone using the smartpen to share notes digitally along with drawings, and conversations via websites, podcasts and even tweets.

PhotoFast G-Monster-Promise PCIe SSD gets speed boostPhotoFast has come up with yet another drive that blows the competition away. It’s called the G-Monster-Promise PCIe SSD and this one offers up an impressive 1,000MB/s. Sure, it isn’t the fastest available in the entire world, but it demands your respect.

You can actually get your hands on the G-Monster-Promise right now, though it’s only available in Japan. Sizes range from 128GB worth of storage all the way up to 1TB. Obviously pricing is high with the 128GB model going for about $1,600, the 512GB model going for $2,000 and the 1TB model going for $4,500.

Finger Forks: Eat like you have Wolverine on every finger

Finger Forks: Eat like you have Wolverine on every fingerDesigned for buffets and dinner parties, these Finger forks allow you to eat as if you had a fistful of mini Wolverines at your fingertips. Whatever you eat will be shredded beyond recognition (Much like Logan’s current movie).

Just slip the finger fork, (or forks) on like a ring and commence stabbing. I recommend inserting a chewed cigar butt between your thumb and index finger for a more authentic Wolverine feel. Sideburns are totally up to you.

Army Rescue Tape, so tough it can be used as an emergency fan belt

Posted in Tools by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2009

Army Rescue TapeYou thought Nuclear Duct Tape was tough. Army Rescue Tape is so good that the armed forces use it. It doesn’t say what they use for though. How tough is it? Well they say that it can even be used as an emergency fan belt. Yeah, that’s tough.

Made of silicone, the tape bonds to itself 1 minute after adhesion. The bond becomes permanent and the tape tears at 700psi so using your teeth isn’t a good idea. It’s acid, solvent and oil resistant and it’s resistant to UV rays.

Mind-controlled prototype wheelchair is awesome

Mind-controlled prototype wheelchair is awesomeThis awesome mind-controlled wheelchair prototype has been developed at the University of Zaragoza in Spain. As you might expect, it uses an EEG cap worn on the head, a P300 neurophysiological protocol and automated navigation.

It works like this. The user sees a visualization of his surroundings on the screen in front of him and then concentrates on the space where he wants to navigate to. The wheelchair obeys. The mind and the wheelchair are doing all of the work. Mostly the wheelchair. Check out the video below.

HydroGlass lets you shower on a fish tank

HydroGlass lets you shower on a fish tankI have seen the future of showering my friends. After a lifetime of being forced to shower while standing upright, I say no more! From now on, I will shower while laying down. On a fish tank, so I’ll have something to watch. The HydroGlass makes it all possible.

It features seven shower heads pointing down at your body and a hand-held shower head for those times when another human must bath you. Standing in the shower is for suckers.

H2O filter turns your pee into drinkable water

Posted in Outdoors by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2009

H2O filter turns your pee into drinkable waterWe’ve seen the scenario in many futuristic Sci-fi movies. Some fancy machine turns your urine into actual drinkable water. It’s a very real concept. Once you take out all of the bad stuff, what do you think is left? Water. That’s what.

To use the H2O filter, just urinate straight into it, then put the lid on. For some reason the next step is to squeeze it between your knees to get the filter doing it’s job. Squeezing your knees together usually comes before this part, when you need to pee real bad. Next, just drink up from the spout at the bottom.

Just like your bike, it will allow your iPhone to stand by itself. The iClooly clip stand can also be used to clip the phone comfortably on your clothing and will also serve as a handle for those who need a handle on their iPhone.
