MSI offers more details on X-Slim X400 and X600 notebooks

msixslimx400-sbI find myself really wanting to get my hands on the MSI X-Slim X400 notebook. Since I saw the X340 at CES I have thought that the slim notebook would be a good replacement for my netbook. It would be nice to have a larger keyboard and screen sometimes, plus the X-Slim machines are way cool.

MSI talked up the new X400 and X600 machines back at the beginning of the month, but offered little in the way of details on the machines. MSI got official with some more specs on the notebooks today. We already knew that the X400 would offer a 14-inch screen and the X600 would offer a 16-inch screen.

Lego USB hubs are stackable

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on May 13th, 2009

Lego USB hubs are stackableWe’ve seen our share of Lego USB drives, but these new Lego USB hubs are actually stackable, therefore totally awesome.

Each Lego USB Hub comes with four USB ports, and in a variety of colors that include red, blue, yellow and black. Sadly, they aren’t an official Lego product and so are only available in Korea for about $12 each. That’s a shame. I really wanted to build an entire Lego wall using these and go for the coveted Guinness world record of “Most hubs in a single wall, made by some lonely dork”.

HifiMAN HM-801 PMP

HifiMAN HM-801 PMPThe HifiMAN HM-801 portable media player (PMP) is a different kind of PMP. It combines a Burr-Brown PCM1704 DAC and a OPA627 op-amp in a single modular unit that lets you use your own amplifier if you want. Supposedly sound quality isn’t compromised as it features full support for FLAC and lossless WMA.

Keep in mind that it lacks video support, media-related features and internal storage all together, so make sure you have a ton of SDHC memory cards if you want to use the retro-ly named HifiMAN HM-801.

Study Ball will have your kid getting good grades in no time

Posted in Humor by Conner Flynn on May 13th, 2009

Study Ball will have your kid getting good grades in no time Sometimes all we need to do is look to the past for solutions. And it doesn’t get much more old school than the ball and chain. Let’s face it, getting kids to study is hard, but attaching a ball and chain to their leg is easy.

The study ball is a real 20 pound ball and chain with a timer. Just set how long you want your kid to study and attach the device. When his or her time is up, it will unlock, not before. Then they can leave their room.

Logitech’s G19 gaming keyboard goes on sale

Posted in Logitech by Conner Flynn on May 13th, 2009

logitechg19-sbFor some reason, we have no idea why, Dell’s online store has a 30 day exclusive on Logitech’s G19 gaming keyboard. They just started selling it at $180, or $260 when bundled with the G9 laser gaming mouse.

Sure, that’s a lot of money, but fragging opponents in game is priceless. The sooner you buy it, the sooner you’ll be gloating and getting cheese doodle residue and Mountain Dew all over it.

Slimmer PS3 at E3?

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on May 13th, 2009

Slimmer PS3 at E3?Hot on the heels of that white US DualShock 3 this morning, there’s word that a revised PS3 is in the works. Rumor is that it’s the long-rumored slimmed-down redesign of the current console, not just a change in color or storage.

It makes sense as it would be cheaper to make and it might even include the rumored motion-sensing hardware. That would help sales.

Samsung’s SCH-W760 features night vision cam

Samsung's SCH-W760 features night vision camThe new SCH-W760 looks like a typical midrange slider. It sports a 3 megapixel camera, DMB reception, Bluetooth, and a 2.8-inch AMOLED display. In other words, the usual. It does feature at least one very interesting feature, though.

That would be a front cam sensitive to the infrared spectrum so that you can hold grayscale video calls in complete darkness. Great for faking ghosthunters type scenes and making your own Blair Witch footage. We have no idea why.

Wood Amazon Kindling

Wood Amazon KindlingHere’s an E-reader for those who like to burn their literature after reading. A clever wood worker fashioned this Kindle out of wood using a laser cutter and dubbed it the Amazon Kindling.

Some advantages: The battery will never betray you. It will provide warmth if you burn it after reading. Termites will eat something intellectual. And it will biodegrade long before Amazon’s version.
