iPhone app lets users print to Epson printers

iphone3g-sbThere have been a few occasions when I was getting email on my iPhone that I wanted to print the document. You can synchronize the document and then print it from your computer, but directly printing a doc from the iPhone would be much easier and add some value to an Epson printer.

Epson has announced a new application for the iPhone and iPod touch that allows users to print documents, emails, and even images directly to an Epson printer from their phones. The app is called the EuroSmartz Print & Share App.

Honestly, while the app sounds like a good idea, Epson spoiled it by not offering the App for free. To be able to print form your iPhone to an Epson printer will cost you $6.99. That seems a bit expensive to me for what is basically an iPhone driver that should be free. Epson wouldn’t charge you extra to print from a Mac to their printers so why the iPhone.

Don’t forget that HP users have the iPrint program that is offered for free in the App store, so not everyone is left out, now if only apple would allow printer driver installation by default

I think you will find EuroSmartz is a separate company to Epson all together and they produce Print & Share not Epson! This is the app that is featured in the latest “Office” iPhone commercial printing out a shipping label and prints a lot more that just photos.

I saw the press release from Epson on other websites and it simply says it works well with Epson printers, which it does - but Print & Share also works well with other printers too, both wired and WiFi.

Sucks. This greed. Just don’t understand why they need to make money the moment they see they can try.
