GM announces Automatic Crash Response technology |
Here’s some technology that we hope you never have a personal use for. GM has announced its OnStar Automatic Crash Response technology that can transmit “basic telemetry from a crash, including GPS location, the crash’s severity, and whether the car’s airbags deployed.”
The new tool is called Injury Severity Prediction, because it will analyze the collected data and attempt to predict whether the crash has caused severe injury to passengers. Each crash will be given an Injury Severity Prediction of ‘normal’ or ‘high,’ which helps first responders better determine what level of care is required and what medical facility they need to transport you too.
It shaves at least seconds off of the whole process, which can make all the difference in saving your life.

The problem with this: Wouldn’t the circuitry for this to work be damaged by a really bad crash? Or am I not an engineer enough to get this?
