Exclusive Vaio C Series Crocodile style

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2009

Exclusive Vaio C Series Crocodile styleSony Japan has updated their C series of laptops with a strange new design. One that we think will catch on just because it’s different. Crocodile skin laptops. Crikey! Sony wants to cater to those who like the skinning of cranky stabby-toothed dinosaurs and want their laptop to reflect that. The new CS series are available now for pre-order and this exclusive Vaio Owner Made edition will be available in brown, red, and pink.

Don’t worry, no Crocs were dipped in pigment and flayed alive. Sony reproduced the crocodile effect by creating real bumps and irregularities of textured patterns on plastic. The official model numbers are VGN-CS92DS, VGN-CS92JS, and VGN-CS92XS and this should be available on April 18th only in Japan for about $1,024.

iTunes digital tracks get variable pricing

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on April 7th, 2009

itunesprice-sbApple has warned iTunes users that variable pricing was coming to the iTunes store and that unwelcome feature has now landed. Engadget reports that many popular tracks are now selling for $1.29 per track rather than the $.99 we are used to for a single.

The increase isn’t that much in the realm of things, but the big issue is that other MP3 stores like Amazonmp3 are still selling the same tracks for $0.99. This may prove to be the shot in the arm iTunes competitors need to gain some customers.

USB rubber chicken drive = USB comedy

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

USB rubber chicken drive = USB comedyIf you’re one of those people who find the mere sight of a rubber chicken hilarious, you’ll want to check out this rubber chicken drive. I’ve never understood rubber chicken comedy myself, but hey if I saw some guy getting beat with one, I might feel different.

You guessed it. Some guy took a USB flash drive and lovingly rammed it up this chicken’s henhouse. And so a DIY USB Rubber Chicken Flash Drive was born. And the thing is huge, lending to the comedy aspect. Why not park yourself in some cafe and connect this thing to your computer?

Samsung intros eco-friendly LCD displays

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

Samsung intros eco-friendly LCD displaysSamsung is showing their love for the environment with the release of two more eco-friendly LCD displays in Korea. They’re in the SyncMaster 70 series with 20″ and 23″ sizes. The LCD displays will come with ToC (Touch of Color) Design and boast that they will suck up to 33% less energy compared to average LCDs.

If that turns out to be true, that’s pretty good. We like to see less waste. Aside from this power-saving feature, there aren’t any other details on this pair. Just a contrast ratio of 50,000 to 1 and a 2ms response time.

Limited edition Gyakuten Kenji Nintendo DSiFans of Ace Attorney will be happy to know that Capcom is releasing a new game based on the famous series at the end of this month. Capcom is all set to release a limited edition DSi branded with Taihokun, the Police Mascot designed by Gumshoe (a Character in the game) and a special package including the new opus of the Ace Attorney series.

It may not be as cool as the GTA: Chinatown Wars Ds Lite, but it’s cooler than the Kingdom Hearts DSi. It’s nice to see so much variety in Nintendo’s handheld lately.

Gold Bullion Mouse: How bankers point & click

Posted in Mouse by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

Gold Bullion Mouse: How bankers point & clickThe official mouse of the financial crisis. With just one click of this mouse you can get a nifty bailout, assign million dollar raises to your cronies and book a flight to some far away land where you can’t be questioned. It’s like magic, this mouse.

This isn’t just tasteless bling, it’s wireless bling. The gold bullion wireless mouse. The warehouse where these are stored may look like Fort Knox, but if you melt this stuff down all you get is a lump of burnt plastic. Not that anyone at this warehouse has a job anymore. So there’s no one there to see this pile of mice in all their bullion glory. Sad.

iPod Touch may get a digital camera

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

iPod Touch may get a digital cameraI’ve always said that if you want to know what a company is up to, check their job listings. Okay, I’ve never said that. I’m saying it now. Just yesterday I looked around and saw that Canon was hiring people for all sorts of camera related stuff, so I know it works.

Apple has published a job posting that mentions “integration of camera modules across iPhone and iPod”. So it looks like the iPod is going to get a digital camera. Maybe. Pretty cool!

Image of 2 TB Time Capsule box?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

Image of 2 TB Time Capsule box?Looky here. Apple retailer ClubMac’s 500 GB Time Capsule page is currently NOT showing an image (shown here) of a 2 TB Time Capsule retail box in its “Product Detail” section. At one point, it apparently was showing such a box. Apple’s Time Capsule combination wireless router and network-attached storage drive is currently available only in 500 GB for $299 and 1 TB for $499.

It may turn out to be real. 2TB 3.5″ hard drives have recently become available, so why not? The original source of the image used on ClubMac’s site is unknown.

Touch-display Coke machine runs Windows

Touch-display Coke machine runs WindowsCoca Cola has more up its sleeve than just high fructose corn syrup and sugar. The company is coming out with a Windows-powered vending machine that will gather more statistics than any other vending machine on the market.

The machine will offer more types of drinks and flavors of Coke and will also keep track of what was sold and when, thus giving Coca-Cola some valuable intel with which to fight the cola wars. The vending machine can also alert the restaurant’s owner, and Coca-Cola, when one of the cartridges is almost empty.

Pip-Boy 3000 iTouch

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

This is the coolest thing we’ve seen all day around here. Someone gutted one of those plastic Pip-Boy 3000 watches and installed an iPod Touch in it. It’s a super clever mod for wandering the wasrelands of the apocalypse.

An actual Pip-Boy 3000 program for the iPod Touch can’t be far behind. Looks like the program he’s showing off is a bunch of stills in the iPod’s photo program. Someone needs to take this idea and make a real honest to god Pip-Boy 3000.

Personal Trainer: Walking for Nintendo DSi

Posted in Nintendo DSi by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

Personal Trainer: Walking for Nintendo DSiThe Nintendo DSi just launched and already we can show you some hardware to buy for the new handheld. The folks over at Joystiq sat down with David Young, the assistant PR manager for Nintendo of America. Mr. Young said that DSi interaction with the Wii was “certainly a possibility,” but he didn’t say anything else on the matter.

He did let one thing out of the bag though. That the DSi will soon be interacting with some new peripherals in the form of a pair of pedometers that will ship with the Personal Trainer: Walking title. Apparently the devices connect wirelessly with the console. The game will be the first title where you can import a Mii character from the Wii. You can even attach one of the pedometers to your dog if you like, to gauge it’s exercise habits/needs.

WiFi BlackBerry Storm 2 coming to Verizon in September

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on April 6th, 2009

Blackberry StormLooks like your Storm 2 wishlist just got an item slashed off. SlashGear has a source that they are pretty confident in, who says that the successor to BlackBerry’s touchscreen smartphone will add WiFi support for faster web browsing. It’s one of the smartphone’s biggest criticisms.

The source also dropped some hints that there are other surprises on the horizon but there are no specifics. Look for a release sometime in September on Verizon.

Samsung Clover phone conceptIf the Samsung Clover ever becomes available to the masses, it will sell like hot cakes. It’s highly customizable with a four module interface that allow it to be upgraded to keep up with the latest in technology. The modules consist of vision, location, sound and sensor, and can be added onto by developers or independently.

It’s also made from recycled materials, so it is eco-friendly for those who care about the environment. The back of the phone features PLCD that transforms from opaque to transparent, depending on the current intensity of the battery level. One thing is for sure, it’s a looker.
