If you thought the Android platform was just for netbooks and cell phones, think again. This free operating system from Google just may take over the entire gadget world yet. Who would have thought it would show up in a TV set top box from KDDI of Japan.

Android is an attractive proposition for budget-conscious gadget makers due to its free and open license. Motorola is first to release its new set top box in Japan, known as the au Box. The au Box can be used to do things like rip, store and playback digital movies and audio over your TV etc.

Spring has sprung so why not celebrate the season with a new spring-themed Zune Original? Unless you are waiting on the Zune HD. Microsoft is offering a collection of custom engravings inspired by the spring season.

There will be six new pieces of art in total for this collection, all by artist duo APAK and individual artists Carolina Melis and Linn Olofsdotter. The patterns are free and apply to any of the flash or hard drive-based Zunes. The spring Originals don’t replace any existing artwork and sit alongside the Artist, Tattoo and Zodiac collections.

LG is proudly announcing that they have successfully made a lot of money off 20 million QWERTY cell phones around the globe. We don’t have any other breakdown on the data, like how many candybar, clamshell or slider form factors sold the most.

The most successful QWERTY devices include the enV series that sold over 8 million units in North America alone along with the Rumor series that sold 6 million units in North America. It’s quite a milestone for LG. You might say that the QWERTY bird gets the worm.

Lenovo and Acer are putting both feet into the all-in-one PC market, not just dipping their toes in. Lenovo wants to release its 20″ C100 entry level unit next month followed by the C100 and Quad Core B500 in August as well as the slim A300 a few months after that.

Acer wants some of that sweet market too, so they will be releasing an 18.5″ model by Wistron. Whenever they arrive, look for them to be under $888. At least that’s what they’re shooting for.

This Puff Robotic Fire Fighter looks like a toy thanks to the stickers. But it’s a bit more sophisticated than that. In panic mode it’s just like a human with a fight or flight instinct. Which comes in handy as this guy is a firefighter.

Puff puts out rather than starts fires. He Scans his Head to find the Flames, then heads towards the Flame and blows it out. If he fails to blow out the Fire within 2 tries the “PANIC” mode kicks in and he backs away to save himself.

Designer Alisson Wilson Ströher’s IMO coffee maker is all about being compact and practical for your home. But it looks like a robot arm. Everytime I had coffee I would be sad that I don’t have the rest of the robot. I might search online and see if I can order his other parts, which would make me sadder. Because you can’t.

Would you keep a robot arm in your kitchen? This coffee maker can adjust its height so you can fill cups of any size. You can also brew three packets of coffee without changing the water inside. It’s only a concept, but if it existed, it would cost just $130.

Details are a bit scarce here, but Taiwan’s Aware Electronics has apparently been the talk Global Sources trade show, introducing a new netbook with a nice surprise. It features a detachable screen. The only other info is that it will come have just 512MB of RAM, an 8GB SSD, and either Windows or Linux for an OS.

But the most interesting thing is the price. Apparently just $150. Which is about right for the markets they are after. Don’t expect it to show up here for that price though.

What you are looking at is a Game Boy hooked up to a nitrous oxide machine, so that this child can be sedated. It’s called the PediSedate and it’s probably a really bad idea.

The PediSedate was designed for use by dentists. Apparently they got bored with putting people under the normal way. The idea is to distract kids with video games while they are drugged for root canal surgery and such. That doesn’t seem creepy at all.

This guitar caught my eye right away. As far as guitar mods go, it’s pretty darn crazy. Crazier then the Atari-Hero. What kind of mind combines a Speak n’ Spell with a Rock Band guitar? This guy in the video below, that’s who.

It’s called the Speak n’ Spellbinder. The sounds from the Speak ‘n Spell are all mapped to the frets, strum button and even the whammy bar. Livio is breaking free of the mold of most internet radios. I mean, it doesn’t get much more innovative than “thumbs up, thumbs down” controls, giving you the power of Siskel and Ebert over music while using Pandora. The Livio Radio is classically styled and comes with a remote included.

Pandora isn’t the only internet radio that this device will handle. It can also tune into a whole bunch of internet radio stations from around the world through Reciva. Just plug it into your AC outlet and have an internet connection, and you’re good to go.

There’s no way to know for sure if this new image is the real deal. However, some sources of Zunited’s have chimed in to say that it is an authentic ZuneHD. The specs seem too good to be true.

Some of those specs are: multi-touch capacitive OLED screen in a 16:9 aspect ratio, 3D Xbox game support, playback of “HD media” available from Zune Marketplace, TV-out from what looks like a mini-HDMI port on the left-side, HD Radio, choice of 16GB or 32GB of storage, wireless sync, multi-touch “browser”.

Professional video editors take advantage of lots of tools that make editing video easier to do. The catch for amateur video editors is that most of that specialized gear costs lots of money. Things like jog wheels for rewinding and forwarding film and other items are out of the reach of many would be editors.

Bella Corporation has announced a new wireless HD Mouse that is designed for video editing tasks. The mouse includes software that allows users to program mouse movements to specific video functions. The X and Y axis can be programmed to work like a jog wheel moving video forwards and backwards.
