Square Enix wins $600,000 judgment on counterfeit Final Fantasy gear

Final FantasyIf a popular video game or movie is released it often doesn’t take long before the content if being ripped off in one way or another. From illegal file sharing to outright bootleg copies being sold lots of illegitimate content makes it to market. Often unauthorized products based on games and films are produced as well.

Square Enix Holdings, the owner of the publisher behind the Final Fantasy video game franchise, announced a huge settlement today against three companies importing unauthorized goods based on the game. The companies were importing and selling replicas of the sword from the game.

The settlement totaled $600,000 and was paid by three companies based in Georgia called Edgework Imports, Top Swords, and Wholesale Gallery. A third company called Pacific Solutions Marketing has agreed to a separate settlement. The complete terms of the settlement were kept private. Square Enix says it is stepping up its anti-piracy efforts to protect its IP.
