Samsung just released it’s latest LCD monitor dubbed the Lapfit External Display. It connects to your laptop, giving you a larger display to work with, play games,watch porn or whatever. The cursor and image panning are nearly perfectly aligned.

You’ll get 18.5″ of viewing area, and it’s probably a good idea to have a notebook equipped with a decent high-end graphics card so you can take full advantage of it. No price info, but we are guessing it will be comparable to a regular 18.5″ LCD.

Here is the first leaked picture of Sony Ericsson’s new Walkman-branded slider phone with metal housing. Known as the Hikaru, the music phone will be officially announced on February 15th 2009, before the MWC 2009, in Barcelona.

Some specs include a 2.6 inch display, an 8MP camera, Walkman player 4.0, stereo speakers, dedicated music keys, a 3.5mm headset jack and 8GB of internal memory. There’s no word on pricing yet, but it will be released in Q2 of ’09. That’s what we know right now.

BlackBerry has yet another model to satisfy all of you email addicts, the BlackBerry 9300, also known as the Gemini. The 3G smartphone features some of the following improvements: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, Larger and better resolution display, Faster processor, Silver exterior ala BlackBerry 8830, and a Rounded keyboard.

No mention of Wi-Fi and GPS in the Gemini, but we assume they are in there. No word on price, but we should see it in Q4 of 2009. Q1 at the latest. It seems obvious that RIM is looking to transition all their devices to 3G over the course of the next year, which is a good thing.

As expected, Amazon announced the next-generation Kindle ebook reader. It comes with the exclusive Stephen King novel UR. The new version will cost $359 and you’ll get a reader that’s thinner than an iPhone at just .36 inches. One of the most interesting new features is Read to Me, which can read any content on the device back to you in a computer voice.

The device also features seven times more storage, a 16-level e-ink display that turns pages 20 times faster, a battery that will give you 25 percent longer battery life, and a new five-way joystick for navigation. It also features Whispersync bookmarking, so if you start reading a book, you can pick up where you left off on any Kindle.

Acer was among the first netbook manufacturers to offer a netbook with a mobile broadband connection at a subsidized price. Its Aspire One was offered over the holidays for $99 with a 2-year agreement on the broadband plan.

Laptop Magazine sat down with Acer’s Product Marketing VP and asked some questions about the company’s plans for 2009. Acer says that it will be offering more subsidized netbooks and laptops with broadband connections this year. The company also says it is negotiating a day rate system with mobile providers for users who only need mobile connectivity on occasion.

Almost every computer manufacturer out there offers a netbook and some are much better than others. While most of the netbooks use the same hardware, the big differentiators between models tend to be battery life, keyboard, and the track pad.

Amazon is offering a special edition Samsung NC10 netbook for pre-order that has a couple interesting new features. The most important of these special edition features is a new 6-cell 5900mAh battery that promises to let the NC10 run for up to 9.4 hours on a single charge.

Unless you live under a rock, you have heard of a netbook already. Netbooks are one of the sole bright spots in the computer industry amid the current poor global economy. The netbook market is posting significant growth as shipments of other more expensive notebooks and desktops are slumping.

Psion has been saying for over a year that computer markers shouldn’t be using the term “netbook” to generically describe the small, low cost systems we know and love today. The reason is that Psion apparently owns the trademark for the word “netbook” and has a machine that goes by that name.

Corsair has been one of the top and most popular memory makers in the PC world for a long time. Some of the highest of high-end gaming PC makers use Corsair RAM in their machines. When the Intel Core i7 CPU and X58 chipset combo launched one of the bad parts was that the system required new low voltage RAM.

The Dominator GT RAM is designed for the i7 and X58 combo with low voltage requirement. The DDR3 RAM is available in triple-channel kits up to 6GB. Corsair uses its Dual-path Heat eXchange technology in the heat sink to keep the modules cool.

Here’s a handy upgrade to the trusty old tape measure that will make any handy man’s job easier. This tape measure has a pencil-less quick-marking tip. Sometimes it can be a real pain marking an area once you’ve measured it. Your pencil might not be where you thought it was, plus maybe you don’t have a steady hand or lack the coordination necessary to mark a line.

Whatever the case, this tape measure makes it a breeze. Just measure out your distance, press the bottom of the tape against your material, and mark your line. Simple as that. It’s a great time saver having the marker built in.

Gadgets and wood have an on-again off-again relationship. Gadget makers love, whether it’s a flash drive, or a laptop case, or even headphones. Now Skullcandy has created some fancy wooden earbuds.

The wood grain earbuds will run you $99. The phones work with all your favorite music delivery devices. Some users say that using wood in earphones enhances the sound. Which likely explains the price. We aren’t sure how far this wood trend is going to go, or if it really enhances something like earbuds enough to justify the price, but what do you think? Are they worth it?

While you’re rocking out in your living room, playing Guitar Hero, rest your drinks on this awesome Fender Guitar Headstock Coffee Table. Samsung has unveiled it’s latest phone, available very soon unlocked from Expansys. You can pre-order the handset for £249.99. The Samsung C6625 features a 2.6 inch non-touchscreen display with 320 x 240 pixels resolution, Tri-band GSM connectivity (900/1800/1900 MHz connectivity), HSDPA 2100 MHz connectivity, a-GPS, Stereo FM radio with RDS, Stereo Bluetooth connectivity, a 2MP shooter with video recording, 100MB internal memory and a microSDHC memory card slot.

The battery will give you enough juice for up to 420 minutes of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby. It’s kind of like the Samsung BlackJack, but with a more rounded look. It’s aimed at business users.

The folks over at OtterBox, protectors of gadgets for the active and accident-prone, gave us a chance to try out one of their defensive products to see just how well it holds up. In this case, OtterBox sent us a protective case for the Blackberry Curve, a device I have with me day in and day out.

Since the case from OtterBox is protecting something I own and depend on daily, we did not put it through the usual drops, dunks and vodka-proof trials that we would normally do. But, despite this we can tell you that this case blows away any other protective case we’ve had our hands on, for any mobile device.

MWC is almost here and the leaked images have started arriving. Meet the Samsung M700 which sort of resembles the Helio. This candybar phone features a 2.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, Bang and Olufsen amplifier, GPS and a 3 Megapixel camera.

You’ll also get a DJ scratching application that will let you add effects and even record, so you can be the man at parties. The phone could be available as soon as May of this year. We should know more when MWC kicks off.
