Global TV sales revenue fell in Q4 2008

Flat Screen TVWe all know the economy is bad, businesses are closing, people are out of work and technology and many other industries are seeing very slow sales. The housing market in many areas is virtually dead. The recession has significantly impacted TV sales.

According to DisplaySearch, Q4 2008 was the first quarter in history that saw a decline in TV revenues. At the same time revenues declined shipments were up 33% year over year. The reason for shipments increasing and revenues falling is lower prices forced by poor sales.

Globally flat panel TV sales grew 66% and global share of 1080p sets exceeded 20% for the first time. TVs shipping with 120Hz or higher frame rates held 10% of the market. China was the largest market for TVs accounting for just over 19% of units with Western Europe and North America at a bit under 19%.

I am a independent contractor delivering freight for a company that has a large account with Amazon and Crutchfield delivering their tvs. I am nor delivering as many as last year about this time , but I am still doing a lot given the current economic times. I found people are still buying the high end tvs due to the sells from the online vendors. Most people are telling me they are saving 5 to 8 hundred dollars buying on-line than buying from these box stores. While i am sure the high profit margin is not there atleast they are still selling>
