U.S. Rep Pete King wants your cell phone camera to make noise |
New York Representative Pete King wants the US to have a law that requires all cameraphones make noise when they take a picture. It’s not unheard of. Japan and South Korea already have similar laws. In his quest for cameraphone sound King has re-introduced the “Camera Phone Predator Alert Act,” , which sounds very urgent and dramatic.
They tried it first in 2007, but it died. The idea behind the bill is to prevent people from taking cameraphone pictures without other people knowing. That’s what the sound is all about. It would sound off and be “audible within a reasonable radius” and you would not be able to disable it.
For some reason I don’t understand, the bill apparently doesn’t apply to digital cameras. And what about the millions of silent camera-equipped phones currently in use? Yep. This is what they waste their time, energy and resources on when our economy is tanking.

thank heavens for BITPIM and QPST. o byte file here we come.
Is this guy about 5 years late on the subject? They tried this and failed already.
And really, the only place people can get away with it currently is in crowded, loud situations. Is a little sound going to make a difference? Any other time, you’d see some weirdo with a phone pointed at you and have a good idea what’s going on.
Besides, if you’re in PUBLIC, anyone can take your picture. If that wasn’t the case, those paparazzi creeps would all be jailed by now.
