Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on January 3rd, 2009

Firefly iPod/iPhone speaker dock from VestalifeRemember the Ladybug, that cute award winning iPod dock from Vestalife? Today, the company is launching two new versions of the stylish bug dock. They already had a pretty unique and innovative design, so this year they are looking to improve on the shape.

It’s far more curvy, looking less techie and more organic. With the Firefly, you have a more naturally elegant iPod/iPhone dock. The Firefly is iPhone compatible, unlike the LadyBug, and has a built-in subwoofer. Features after the jump.

Vuzix Wrap 920AV head-mounted display

Vuzix Wrap 920AV head-mounted displayLooks like Vuzix will introduce their latest head-mounted display at CES this year. It’s dubbed the Wrap 920AV. This wearable gadget has improved optics and will offer a better viewing experience. The most important aspect however, is the style change. The older models of the VR system looked like Geordi LaForge’s visor from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

This new design is cool enough that people might actually wear them. Vuzix promises the optics are much improved and that you will actually feel like you’re watching a real screen. Previous versions had a poor POV that didn’t live up to its goal of immersive-style entertainment.

Canine treadmill takes the dog for a walk while you play video games

Canine treadmill takes the dog for a walk while you play video gamesHaving a dog can be awesome. You are like a God to man’s best friend. Animals are even said to help keep you stress free. But they are pretty high maintenance, with the feeding and the walking. It can really cut into your gaming time.

Thankfully, this dog treadmill will help. No longer will you need to pause your game and go take Fido for a walk. He can do it his own damn self, while you continue fragging zombies. The Canine Treadmill comes in three sizes for three sizes of dog, and is priced at $550, $700 and $900, respectively.

Voodoo Firefly notebook concept is cool

Posted in HP by Shane McGlaun on January 2nd, 2009

Voodoo FireflyThere are some things that virtually all gaming notebooks have in common, one of them being the placement of the track pad. Laptop Magazine got its hands on a new concept notebook form HP called the Firefly with Voodoo DNA.

The gaming machine is very slick and offers up some interesting firsts in the notebook and gaming notebook genre. One of the most notable features is the 17-inch primary display and the 4.3-inch secondary display under it. How useful a 4.3-inch LCD with a resolution of 800 x 480 can be is a big question mark. The main LCD has a 1920 x 1200 resolution.

TDVision to show method for full HD 3D video streams

Posted in 3D by Shane McGlaun on January 2nd, 2009

TDVisionI always see some really cool gear at CES each year and CES 2009 will be no different. At CES 2008, one of the coolest things I saw was a 3D gaming demo NVIDIA put on. I can’t wait for 3D gaming to be more accessible for the average gamer. Perhaps one of the most exciting things at last year’s show and this year’s show will be technology to allow for 3D full HD TV viewing.

A company called TDVision has announced that it will be showing the world’s first 3D/2D compatible full HD stereoscopic broadcast and Blu-ray format. The TDVCodec is a system for encoding and decoding HD 3D video streams that can broadcast at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Multiple controller chargers for Xbox, Wii, and PS3

dreamGEAR Controller ChargersI know I am not the only gamer out there who has a Wii, PS3 and an Xbox 360 with wires and controllers lying around everywhere charging. I have a charger that will charge four Wii controllers at once, and there are several others on the market.

What you don’t see a lot of are multiple controller chargers for the PS3, though there are a few, and the Xbox 360. The Wii charger is unique in that not only will it charge four Wii Remotes at once; it also has a spot for charging four AA rechargeable batteries for the Wii Balance Board.

WarBeast Guitar ControllerTwo of the top selling video game franchises of 2008 were Guitar Hero and Rock Band. With the huge popularity of the music games, it’s no surprise that an ecosystem of peripherals and accessories are available to add realism and take money from the wallets of gamers.

iPods turned into iPod speakers

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

iPods turned into iPod speakersCheck out this pair of iPods that have been turned into iPod speakers. The original iPod scroll wheels were removed and replaced with a pair of speakers. This particular DIY project is a bit expensive at around $100 (he needed to replace both the front and back panels since the old ones had too many scratches to count), although I don’t see why a smart shopper couldn’t do it for a bit less.

IPod speakers for an iPod. Makes sense. Let’s not go crazy though. We don’t need to see Zune speakers for Zunes and iPhone speakers for your iPhone. I’m just kidding. We love any and all clever mods, even when they get a bit redundant.

Volkswagen Bus Radio

Posted in Radio by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

Volkswagen Bus RadioLooks like the VW bus has jumped the groove and left it’s record playing days behind to become a radio. Dreams of Japan has released a miniature version of the Volkswagen bus aka hippie mobile, that features an AM/FM radio, all the necessary jacks for hooking up an external audio source and radio antenna alongside a tiny LCD display in the back window.

It also features a digital clock for the time. But it wouldn’t be a hippie mobile without some analog dials to tune the radio and adjust the volume. Sadly, there’s a catch. As every hippie knows, “the man” can’t be trusted. “The man” has priced this one at $129.99.

Xbox 360 modded car

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

Xbox 360 modded carApparently, this modder hated the thought of leaving his console home alone while he was out and about in the world. Separation anxiety no doubt. Yes, this is an Xbox 360 Console and the Controllers Modded in a car! An Xbox 360 in a car, you ask? Yes. And look how well the car and the Xbox get along. It’s like they were meant for each other.

The XBox 360 has been embedded in to the dash while 1 controller rests in the steering wheel and the other sits comfortably in front of the gear shift. It’s a great idea, but the one fatal flaw is that at some point, you will have to park that car and walk away. At which time a thief throws a rock through the window and makes off with your console. It really is a beauty though.

Paul Frank iPhone 3G cases

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

Paul Frank iPhone 3G casesBeing a man of a certain age, rather then a teenage girl, I admittedly don’t get the whole Paul Frank Monkey thing. But that monkey is damn popular. He’s on Pajamas, handbags, shirts, you name it. So it makes sense that he appears on his own iPhone 3G cases. You can find Paul Frank’s previous mobile cases here.

In all, there are five new silicon case designs, including the very colorful Paul Frank Skurvy Guitar case that is covered in wild little guitars. There’s also one covered in hearts if you want to proclaim how much you heart your new case. Each of these Paul Frank 3G iphone cases retail for $29.95.

USB Jewel Bracelet thumb drive

Posted in Flash Memory by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

USB Jewel Bracelet thumb driveFor those looking to be stylish while always having some extra memory around their wrist, Brando has released its new USB thumb drive with decorative crystals.

The pros: No one is going to want to steal this tacky crapped up wrist-hugger with jeweled glass bits, so your data should be safe. Cheap crap should be in again this season. The cons: You’ve got a crappy piece of jewelry and already have plenty of flash drives lying around. For $33 you could do much better and probably get 3 rows of crap “Jewels” instead of 2. It’s available in silver or gold colors and the drive supports USB 2.0, Microsoft Windows XP/Vista, MAC OS and Linux OS.

Time Tuner Alarm Clock looks like analog

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

Time Tuner Alarm Clock looks like analogHere’s a great design that can’t make up it’s mind as to whether it’s from the future or the past. We like it. The Time Tuner was created by Istanbul-based Antrepo Design Industry, who decided against the traditional digital clock face. It instead boasts an analog style that resembles a radio tuner.

It’s a lot like our favorite watches from Tokyoflash. The numbers along the length of the dial light-up to show you the hour. At the same time, an illuminated vertical red line moves across the dial for minutes. If you’re looking for a clock with style, look no further.

World Of Warcraft theme on BlackBerry

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on January 1st, 2009

World Of Warcraft theme on BlackBerryWorld of Warcraft has a huge fanbase. The kinds of fans that are actually into tech as well. So it makes sense to have a World of Warcraft Today theme for the BlackBerry Curve. WoW fans can now get in-game graphics and icons on their communications devices, and probably helpful reminders about any guild raids they may have planned.

Just when you thought you could get a gamer out of the WoW universe for a few minutes, something like this comes along and pulls them back in. Sure, it’s not like you get to play on your iPhone, but the theme certainly gives BlackBerry that in game feel. Horde and Alliance themes can’t be far behind.
