Logitech has shipped its one billionth mouse

Logitech Billionth MouseNearly every desktop PC on the planet makes use of the same peripherals. The mouse and keyboard have been with computers almost as long as computers have been around. In the world of peripherals, there are a few big names in mice like Logitech and Microsoft.

Logitech announced today that it has now shipped its one-billionth mouse. Logitech shipped its first mouse, the Logitech P4, in 1982. By 1996, the company had shipped one million mice globally. By 2003, Logitech had shipped 500 million mice and a mere five years later Logitech has doubled that amount to one billion mice shipped.

Logitech builds a whopping 376,000 mice per day and 7.8 million mice every month. Those figures are mind boggling to most of us. Consider that there are currently over a billion people worldwide using computers and it’s easy to see how large the market for mice is. Logitech has its eyes on shipping its second billion mice. Analysts expect the next billion people globally to begin using computers by 2014.
