E3 goes Back to its Roots (Sort Of) |
Video games are a big business with top-tier video game sales often outdoing the hottest films box office take. When the video game industry started getting large back in 1995 the inaugural E3 or Electronic Entertainment Expo was launched.
For most of its life E3 was associated with massive booths, tons of games, game geeks everywhere and hoards of booth babes. Then in 2007, E3 changed for the worse. Only journalists could get in and even then journalists had to be invited by a game firm showing at the show.
I went in 2007 and it sucked. I didn’t go back this year. I guess the gang behind E3 saw the writing on the wall and are moving the show to the LA Convention Center for 2009 and making it much larger with bigger booths and more exhibitors. The gaming public still won’t be allowed in, but any qualified industry journalist and other industry-associated folks will be let in. Maybe the show won’t suck so badly for 2009.
