Sony PS3 Firmware 2.41 available now |
According to the Sony Playstation blog, the company has released firmware version 2.41 for the Playstation 3 which is expected to be a smoother update than the 2.40 version they released last week and had to pull shortly after. Apparently some folks who installed the 2.40 version experienced problems getting to the XMB when booting up and were stuck with a bricked console, at least temporarily.
We had heard that Sony would get a fix for the 2.40 firmware out sometime this week and their blog entry late last night said it would be available shortly. According to a number of reports the 2.41 version is available now with much, much fewer problems.
Both the 2.40 and the 2.41 firmware updates for the Playstation 3 game console bring some new features including in-game access to the XMB and a new Trophy system for awarding players.

the 2.40 update didn’t cause me any problems, but now that i’ve installed 2.41, my system won’t read any discs at all. it just leaves the loading icon up in the top right corner whenever i put a disc in, and nothing happens.
Ditto. Same thing has happened to me after ‘upgrading’ from 2.36 to 2.41. The XMB recognises CDs and DVDs but will not recognise blu-ray discs.
Same thing for me - went from 2.36 to 2.41 and now it wont read any disk. on its way back to sony. Bummer.
i have the same problem here. he can’t read no more blu-ray or games. only dvd’s will play. this occured after installing the 2.41 firmware last week.

Same deal for me. Didnt install 2.4 but now that I updated to 2.41 my PS3 wont load games or BD movies.
yea mine bricked too. 2.40 it started and 2.41 bricked it. way to go sony, you guys rule !!!
mine says “cannot start. the correct hard disc was not found” looks like an early upgrade for me, 6mos old 80g. too bad I lost all my game saves, add-ons and down loads (paid for), etc. my online stats should still be ok.
if they kill my new drive, if that works, i’m going postal !!
hej the same for me I´ve installed the firmewire from 2.36 to 2.41 and it just won´t read any disc pls someone give me phone number to call sony to send my ps3 back for repair or get another one whatever! pls someone? give a number to sony
Same here, mine can’t read any disks either. And I went straight from 2.36 to 2.41.
Does anyone know if reformatting the hard disk or installing another OS (i.e. Linux) can solve the problem? Since it’s a software problem and all.
After I’ve installed the 2.41 my PS3 just won’t read any disc… How can i fix that??
mine did the same thing, won’t read discs…boots up, I can surf the web, but I can’t read ANY discs
Same thing happeded to me. I called in sony store as i purchased it from there 2 months ago. They game me sony customer care number when i tried calling them after selecting playstation 3 support it said connecting….and then it said your call could not go through please try again.
I was frustated and thought restore may solve the issue. I did a restore and lost all my saved games and data still disc is not loading.
Anyone made it worked?
same problem here… freezing problems first and after a system restore, settings restore i got the icon spinning on the corner and dont read any disc.. no bd, no dvds no cds
same happened to me… freezing first and then dont read anything… anyone knows if replacing the hdd help??

Read this if You’re about to change Your ps3 HDD!!!
I bought 320Gb hard disc (Toshiba MK3252GSX)to replace the 40GB original one.
I’ve understand now my problem which is following:
I make the backup from 40Gb HDD to an external FAT harddrive. Actually I’ve made two just to make sure I have it
Anyway, when I attach new one in and start the ps3, it will not recognize the new HDD nor the external HDD where the backup is.
This cannot be a fault of the new HDD, since I’ve replaced it already twice in a store where I bought it.
This is rally starting to annoy me and it takes time since when looking at the “howtochangeyourps3HDD” -videos in Youtube it seems to be very starightforward (ans as the instruction manual says as well).
So, obviously I need to call at least to the ps3 support and give them few chosen words. Then I need to wait for the next firmware update… Hopefully the cost of HDDs will not decrese much meanwhile.
Last nigth wanted to watch a film but my ps3 will not read Blue ray disks or games, I was on ver 2.41 and then upgraded to ver 2.42 still the same
