RCA ANT1500 Flat Indoor Antenna

The world of multi-directional antennas, or “rabbit ears” as some like to call them, doesn’t get much attention these days in tech news. RCA is trying to refresh the category by unveiling some flat antennas designed to pair with flat panels as the coming analog to digital television transition creeps up.

The highlighted antenna is the RCA ANT1500 Flat Indoor Antenna, priced at around $60. RCA says consumers should pair this antenna, and others like it, as it is “designed to pick up more channels than a traditional rabbit ears antenna. Local broadcasters are now sending multiple digital TV channels to supplement their main programs.”

RCA adds that, in some markets, this expanded antenna will be the only option for “receiving vital weather, traffic, and news information.” It says as well this antenna can pick up local HDTV signals in full 720 progressive or 1080 interlace formats. I guess that will serve well as you are heading for the storm cellar while Bob the weatherman warns you of the arriving tornado. Available now.

Antenna not effective for long range use. Looks more robust than most.

I have a flat antenna, and an RCA 751 mounted indoors on a hand painted 2×6 going into a splitter combiner, and then going into a Philips 18db signal indoor amp. I get 22 channels on two HDTV’S, and I am in a very hard to get signals urban area surrounded by apts and next to a major airport! Transmitters are about 26 – 30 miles away. Hope this info helps someone out. Because I have spent a lot of time figuring out the best urban antenna for the money package that I could find. And had to suffer and endure endless nagging, until I finally heard my wife say. “Hey,I don’t have to move the antenna around anymore, and the picture on the TV is soooo good!” So now I’m finally out of the doghouse guys, woof!
