Coffin modded car makes for one morbid race
Here’s a car to die for…I bet the engine croaked…These things are normally kept underground to prevent 3 coffin pile-ups on the highway. Bad jokes aside, where do you get the gonads to make a car out of a coffin? Isn’t that like thumbing your nose at death? It can only end with a high speed chase, with a very unhappy grim reaper on your tail. Of course it’s a fairly easy mod. You get a new coffin.(Yeah. Don’t go digging up relatives.) Add an engine, wheels steering etc and you’re off.

Martin Jetpack gets unveiled

Martin Jetpack gets unveiled
The Martin Jetpack is defined by the FAA as an “experimental ultralight airplane, equipped with a gas-powered, V-4 piston engine and two ducted fans that provide the lift.” The jetpack was unveiled among an enthusiastical crowd in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It will allow the flyer to hover for about 30 minutes and rise to 8,000 feet.

It will cost you $100,000 and you’ll have to complete 15 hours of flight training as well as undergo a “safety screening.” I’m getting flashbacks of 70′s TV. Back when it seemed that everyone used a jetpack in at least one episode of their show. I can just see that trend being revived today. How would you like to see House tossing his cane and taking off? Video below.

Stewart F1 Lithium: A sportscar for golf clubs

Stewart F1 Lithium: A sportscar for golf clubs
Certain items have “mid-life crisis” and “cranky old fart with money” written all over them. This is one such item. The F1 Lithium is the latest over the top golf accessory for those who want to prowl the golf course in style. It collapses to a nice handy size, which is why this foldable caddy is named F1. F1 stands for ‘the folding one’.

It uses a custom made Li-Ion battery that’s capable of giving you enough energy for more than 36 holes of golf. An LCD screen at the rear will tell you how much battery life remains. It will cost you $5,000. But seriously, if you’re going to buy this, you can certainly upgrade the whole plaid look you have going on. Buy a more practical golf accessory like this.

Wake n’ Bacon, alarm clock and heart attack in one unit

Wake n’ Bacon alarm clock and heart attack in one unit
We all hate alarm clocks, but without them we would all just show up at work whenever we managed to rouse ourselves out of our slumber. Probably around 1 or 2 PM. The makers of the Wake n’ Bacon alarm clock want you to feel good about waking up.

And what could be better then waking up to the smell of sizzling bacon. It works like this: At bedtime you insert a slice of uncooked bacon. It will begin cooking ten minutes before the alarm goes off, so you can wake up to some artery clogging pig meat. It’s kind of disgusting and yet a monument to awesomeness at the same time.

Wii MotionPlus demoed in 3D, with lightsaber

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on July 30th, 2008

The company that worked with Nintendo on the MotionPlus controller add-on, has now released a video that demonstrates the capabilities of the new hardware using 3D tools called LiveMove2. Turns out that the 1:1 tracking is really 1:1. Also the response time is pretty instant.

Before you know it they’re playing with lightsabers and fighting off Seeker Drones, then tossing around a 3D dummy with the lightsaber. All in all a lot of fun. The end result is that this technology can map incredibly complex motions to even more specific commands then before. It’s pretty damn impressive.

Meridian 810 Reference Video System

Meridian Audio is unveiling a serious new video projector and scaler which will definitely set you back a pretty penny or two. It is called the Meridian 810 Reference Video System and pricing is set around $185,000.

The Meridian 810 Reference Video System includes one serious projector capable of 4096 x 2400 pixels, or 10 megapixels, of display capability. That might not seem light much unless you consider, said Meridian, that a regular HDTV image at 1080i represents just 1 megapixel, while full-spec HD (1080p) is still only twice that. It also can deliver up to 4000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 10000:1.

Olympic iPhone, for some reason

Olympic iPhone, for some reason
The summer Olympics are starting in about a week. If you desire an Olympic iPhone to commemorate the occasion, you’re in luck. It comes decked out with 88 diamonds and the retail price is an insane $8,224.

It’s not as expensive as the Amosu iPhone 3G, but every bit as ridiculous. I hope these come with insurance against getting mugged because you are a rich douche. I guess when your money finally runs out you can always pawn one of it’s 88 diamonds for some cash.

Tomy RC R2-D2 becomes see-through D2

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on July 30th, 2008

Tomy RC R2-D2 becomes see-through D2For some reason Tomy decided to release a new See-through R2-D2 with lightsaber remote. I guess they like their droids looking like ice.

R2 does everything that previous models have done, like move forward or turn on command, rotate his dome as he rolls, beep and whistle, and illuminate his photoreceptor “eye”. All while looking “chill” this time. This version should probably be serving drinks on Hoth. Well, it is a Star Wars item, so you might want to buy one or two less comics this month with your allowance.

Meninos hard drives make storage fun

Meninos hard drives make storage fun
Plain boring hard drives. We’ve all got one. But what if you could jazz up that hard drive and actually make a creative statement about your work area? The artists of Brazil’s Meninos design studio hate boring hard drives and they did something about it.

It all started when they made these custom pop art hard drive cases for friends. Now they are releasing them into the wild so everyone can enjoy them. Each external USB hard drive case is made by hand at their studio, using a custom acrylic case covered with a vinyl wrapper that features one of their designs. They’ll also make custom designs for you if you want to upload Adobe Illustrator art using their custom template. I like the Stormtrooper.
