Nikon debuts flashy new D-SLR camera

Nikon D700

Nikon yesterday unveiled a new digital SLR camera targeted towards professional which delivers a little more bang in a smaller form factor. The new Nikon D700 is priced at around $3,000 for the body only.

The Nikon D700 is equipped with a 12.1-effective megapixel Nikon FX-format sensor that measures 23.9 x 36mm, which Nikon says is nearly identical to the size of 35mm film. This camera, which builds upon the D3, incorporates as well a special Nikon image processing system, 51-point auto focus system with special tracking and two shooting modes for framing photos using the camera’s three-inch LCD monitor.

Other features of the D700 include a native ISO range of 200 to 6400,  self-cleaning system designed for the FX-format sensor and a start-up time of 0.12 seconds. It will be available this month.
