Street legal Bumper Cars look awesome |

Remember having fun at the amusement park when you were a kid and riding around in the bumper cars? Apparently, it’s a whole big thing to modify bumper cars so they’re street legal. Awesome idea, but would I be able to fight the urge to bump and shove others? Probably not.
They use a Kawasaki 750cc motorcycle engine for power, which allows them to reach sidestreet speeds. For some ungodly and unexplainable reason, they cost $50,000 to modify them so they’re street legal! That is bizarre. How is that possible when there is so little car involved?

These are far from street legal. They do appear to be street registered. They are probably fine at car shows. You probably wouldn’t make it 2 blocks on the real streets. If you get a cop with 1/2 a sense of humor, he’d probably tell you to take it home. If you catch a cop on a bad day, you’re probably looking at impound.
I would love to have one of these little machines !!!!!!
I’ve seen this very car and one just like it cruising around San Diego. They have regular CA plates and the drivers didn’t need helmets either.
I have a 1953 Lusse Bumper car that has been refurbished and mounted on a brand new Honda 700. It has a Black cherry and cream color scheme. It is similar to Tom Wrights red and black car. It is a 5 speed with reverse. Gas and clutch pedals, left hand gear shifter, hand and foot breaks, lights and controls in a custom dash. This is a difinate head turner and will win awards at any local car shows. Form more information, please let me know. I am in the Atlanta area. bwestpoker@yahoo.com
There are seven of these little monsters floating around California, and they’re all the creation of one man, Tom Wright, a builder in the outskirts of San Diego who figured the leftovers of the Long Beach Pike amusement park needed a more dignified end than the trash heap.
They were originally powered by two cylinder Harley Davidson Motorcycle engines but they rattled like heck because of the two cylinder vibration and Tom replaces them with four cylinder Honda or Kawasaki 750′s and a couple have been measured as capable of 160 MPH, which is terrifyingly fast in machines with such a short wheelbase. By the way, they are almost indestructible in accidents!
well if it wasn’t legal why is the DMV allowing them to be registered? AND INSURED? thease little street bumpercars are going to make it big and Tom Wright rich, the only reason any one is complaining is because there mad they didn’t think of it first. MR MADMIKE. THATS ALL THANK YOU.
I agree with Linda. It’s legal and you’d say it wasn’t for two reasons, one your ignorant or two your jelous because you don’t have one. Stop hating!
