iPhones will now control aircrafts from the ground, thanks to some geeky iPhone app developers. Researchers from the University of California, Berkeley have apparently broken Apple’s terms and conditions when they used the iPhone to guide unmanned aircraft. The Apple Software Developer Kit agreement states that the applications are not to be designed or marketed for automatic or autonomous control of aircraft.

Too late now. And why would they care anyway, they’re having way too much fun. The team uses Mobile Safari to input coordinates and then selects tasks for the unmanned flight that are relayed to the aircraft through a web server. Check out the video below.

Most of you have heard the rumors about a touchpad on the new guitar, well now we get to see it for real. IGN previewed the new gear, and they say that the strip will be used for notes during sustains, tapping to play notes, and interfacing with the new music creator.

Interestingly, the guitar is larger than those that have come before it. Back to the drums. They’re pressure sensitive, with a plain jane mic, and the music creation software is apparently very awesome. Sadly, you can’t record vocals for songs though. The Wii version of the game will have all of the same features, which is good news for Wii owners.

The Sari is a traditional piece of clothing originally worn by Indian women. The Google Sari is a designer’s attempt at being clever. Of course, if Google doesn’t appreciate it, your Sari may turn into a genuine sorry. It’s from designer Satya Paul, who showed the Google sari in one of his recent shows. Very clever. Or maybe not. I can’t decide. I can’t wait for his next attempt, which is probably iPhone inspired and called the Safari Sari or something. Maybe a see-through sari called Microsoft Touch. That one would be trouble.

Adder talked this week about some new extenders which can length the reach of USB and video signals to remote locations. The new Adder AdderLink X50 is priced at around $645, while the AdderLink X50-Multiscreen prices around $945.

The Adder AdderLink X50 is designed to deliver video up to 1920 x 1200 together with 44.1kHz digital stereo audio over a single CATx cable. It can also be used to extend USB signals from peripherals such as keyboards, mice and graphics tablets to up to 165 feet from the computer.

Apple is touting themselves as the world’s largest online music retailer and these numbers are tough to argue with. As of Thursday the company announced that iTunes has reached the 5 billion mark and beyond for the number of online song downloads since their launch in 2003. It seems like it was only a year ago that they reached the 3 billion mark. In fact it was not quite a year go last July when they announced they had reached 3 billion downloaded songs.

To get an idea of just how many songs that is, customers had to have downloaded a little over 2.5 million songs per day on average since the site launched. In reality 2 billion of these were done in just the last 10 months, making it over 6 million per day for the past year.

WOW Technology announced today the launch of an ergonomic mouse device for computer users. It is called the WOW-Pen Joy and it will retail for around $30.

The WOW-Pen Joy is a mouse designed to ease issues around repetitive stress issues. It uses a vertical trajectory and horizontal structure, allowing users “to have the natural feeling of grabbing a joystick.”
