DiskGo Secure GuardianEdge Tech has announced a new secure USB flash drive which is both durable and encrypted. It is called the DiskGo Secure Guardian and you’ll find it pricing between around $70 and $250, depending upon memory configuration.

The DiskGo Secure Guardian from Edge Tech is available in 1, 2, 4 and 8GB configurations. It makes use of 256-bit AES hardware encryption to secure data as well as complex password protocols and a function which actually erases the drive’s data after eight failed password attempts.

Asus says less bamboo is more, loves Pandas

Asus says less bamboo is more, loves PandasAsus ditched their plans for all-bamboo laptops, much to the delight of bamboo chewing Pandas everywhere. Instead they’ve revealed the U6, which is only bamboo trimmed for that we’re still green statement. I have to say, the look works.

If laptops evolved from the old wood-grain atari console, this is what they would look like. You’ll pay for all that elegance, as it will cost you around $2000. Apparently, plans for the all-bamboo Asus EcoBook were scrapped when heat management became an issue. Good thing too, because otherwise we wouldn’t have this looker.

Western Digital Scorpio BlackWhen it comes to your notebook computer everything is a compromise. The performance of everything from the CPU inside to the hard drives and video cards are a compromise of performance for battery life and vice versa. The trick is to get a good balance of performance while still getting good battery life.

Western Digital announced today that its line of Scorpio Black 2.5-inch SATA notebook HDDs are now available. This line of drives gives high performance with a 7200 RPM rotational speed, but adds some technology to help reduce the battery power needed and increase the runtime of the notebook.

LG launches a pair of stretched LCDs for the UK

Posted in LG by Shane McGlaun on June 2nd, 2008

LG Stretched LCDsI get why people want wide LCDs. They are great for gaming thanks to the typically higher resolutions and they allow you to get more stuff on the screen at once. For instance you can get several of the latest pics of your favorite quasi-stars getting out of their cars sans undies on the screen at once.

Despite the obvious use I mentioned above LG says that the M3800S-BN and the M2900S-BN displays are designed for presenting lots of information on screen at once for locations like airports and train stations. The M38000S-BN is a 38-inch screen and the M2900S-BN is a 29-inch LCD. Both screens can be mounted horizontally or vertically as well.

RSStroom Reader: News on toilet paper
This is one luxury that they forgot to add to the Souped-up John. It’s the perfect way to get the latest news, since most news is crappy news. It’s courtesy of Yi Tien Electronics, an innovator who saw the need for bathroom reading material and decided to fill it. They made a computer/printer/toilet fax that prints RSS headlines directly onto toilet paper. The device even calculates the user’s weight when they sit on the toilet seat, so it can taylor the news specifically to you. (I’m guessing a bunch of Wii Fit news)

iPhone or iPod touch rotating alarm clock

iPhone or iPod touch rotating alarm clock
Here’s a pretty decent looking and unique alarm clock setup for your iPhone or iPod touch. It was designed specifically for both devices, taking advantage of their screen. This way you have your device and a slick looking clock both on display. Just like all the other docks, the iH41 will charge the player and throw out the audio.

The interesting feature here is that when you turn it on its side to view your device horizontally, the clock on the dock rotates so you can still read the time. The dock has an auxiliary jack that should be compatible with just about any MP3 player if you haven’t jumped on the iWagon yet. It will cost you $79.99 and it ships in July.

Wrench tightens nuts by hand, literally

Wrench tightens nuts by hand, literally
Normally cranking your nuts by hand is frowned upon. I guess that’s no longer the case. Surprisingly, this tool was not designed for booty grabbing hijinx within automotive shops. I think. I’m really not sure why it was designed, but we love it. I’d be surprised if it worked as good as a regular wrench, but it’s a great way to add some comedy to your otherwise serious toolbox.

Everytime you adjust the fingers to fit your needs, it’s as if a little hand is holding two fingers up saying, “Do you love me this much?” and so forth. It’s all rather creepy, truth be told. I think it has to be used for evil. Yes, I think it must be made to pinch a woman’s butt at least once in it’s career.

Lifesaver Bottle: Heavy on filtration, low on parasites

Lifesaver Bottle: Heavy filtration, low on calories
Much like the smallest fishing rod in the world, the Lifesaver bottle should be in the backpack of survival and adventurer Bear Grylls. Why take the chance of drinking bacteria and viruses, when you can get clean water from a magic bottle?

It will remove bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi and all kinds of microbiological menaces without using chemicals like iodine or chlorine. That means no nasty taste. It’s got a replaceable carbon filter, filtration membranes, and loads of other little features tucked inside. It’s basically the ferrari of filtration. Great item to have whenever you are far from civilization. Because even if the water won’t kill you, nobody likes diarrhea.

Green Machine powered from waste heat

Green Machine powered from waste heat
The folks over at ElectraTherm have a 50-kilowatt machine that uses industrial waste heat for fuel, providing even more options for green energy. They’re calling it the ElectraTherm Green Machine, not to be confused with that Huffy Green machine you had as a kid.

Get this. With this unit, you can actually get back the money you spent within three or four years. That’s with electricity costing approximately three or four cents per kilowatt-hour. They use an organic Rankine cycle to heat liquids, then the liquids are transformed into a vapor, at which point it will move the turbine thus generating electricity. Looks like heat-to-electricity can be successful on a small scale, since this is capable of powering up to 40 homes at once.

Chess car maximizes safety in accidents

Chess car maximizes safety in accidents
This concept by Dutch designers looks like a Star Trek shuttlecraft on wheels. The basic idea is that the cabin on top of the platform can move around during a crash, which would hopefully keep the passengers inside safely out of any areas that would crumple and get hit during the impact.

The passengers could theoretically be exposed to much less force and the car wouldn’t get damaged quite as badly. That cuts down on injuries and death of course. It’s an awesome idea if it works the way they think it does. Probably the weakest area would be where the cabin and the platform meet. If they can make that super durable, it’s a concept that should work.

Aroma USB protects you from your own BO

Aroma USB protects you from your own BO
Aromatherapy isn’t a new concept. USB-powered diffusers have been around for awhile. But the Aroma USB makes no bones about the fact that it knows something funky is going on in your immediate area, and like a glade plug in, it wants to help.

Maybe it’s that moldy half-eaten bag of cheetos you call a mousepad. More likely it’s your own BO, mixed with a subtle hint of Hot Pockets. The device has a scented fragrance strip that doles out pleasant smelling air when the air around you gets so bad that it threatens to attract the affections of Pepe LePew. A refill will last up to about a week. The noses around you will thank you.

World’s smallest fishing rod & reel pen

World’s smallest fishing rod & reel pen
If you’re an outdoors kind of person, but don’t like to carry large gear, such as awkward and long fishing rods, this gadget is for you. It’s the smallest fishing rod in the world. Apparently, it actually has some quality to it. It’s made of stainless steel and polished aluminum. And guys take note, just because you have a small rod, doesn’t mean you can’t reel in a big fish.

They say it can catch a fish up to 4lbs in weight. When it’s all closed up it measures just 8 inches, but will extend to 37inches. It’s small and lightweight, perfect for the Bear Grylls type to quickly catch dinner and continue adventuring. You can store it anywhere. Can hold 120 yds of 5lb line and comes with hooks and everything else you need to get started.

Overhead clock doubles as light fixture

Overhead clock doubles as light fixture
Time could literally kill you suspended from the ceiling like that. Death by numbers aside, it seems almost Orwellian. At least you’ll always know what time it is while you plug away at work, always looking up at the ever present glow and march of time. Time which also gives the room a cold foreboding glow. It was commissioned by the NYC gallery, Artists Space.

Maybe it’s just me, but I would just keep looking up at the ceiling, feeling like a lone french fry under a heat lamp giving off no heat. Then I’d notice the almost total lack of humanity in this room. I’d watch the time go by, bored to tears. Play with a few USB gadgets…Then I would promptly jump out the window into real daylight.

Dad gives son Steampunk Clock as wedding gift
Whether it’s marriage by shotgun or just a pat on the back, you can’t do much better then getting this beautiful steampunk clock as a gift. It beats the hell out of a toaster or a blender. The father spent weeks working on the clock, which is walnut with brass and other metals.

He did a pretty good job considering that the son only recently introduced him to the whole steampunk thing. Plus the guy is grade A crazy in a good way like Doc Emmett Brown. He wanted to wear a steam-punk suit to the wedding, but his wife wouldn’t let him. It’s made by Diversified Artistic Designs (D.A.D.).
