Dell’s first mini laptop revealed
At the All Things D conference, Gizmodo’s Brian Lam ran into Michael Dell and learned about a new prototype laptop that, until then was all very hush hush. It’s got a bright red candy shell, with the body being similar to an Asus Eee PC.

So those in the market for an Eee PC might want to sit back and wait a bit as it’s about to enter the sub-$500 mini-laptop world. It’s just pics at the moment, but specs will be coming soon. The pics do reveal three USB ports, a card reader, VGA out, and Ethernet.

Souped Up John: The ultimate geek throne
The Souped Up John is the ultimate in geek bathroom luxury. The designer certainly wasn’t constipated when it came to throwing ideas into this john, but was certainly counting on your constipation to keep you in place long enough to use all of the various gadgetry.

It sports a television, TiVo, DVD, XBox, laptop, fridge and of course the toilet paper holder comes standard. Plus an iPod docking station. You also get some exercise pedals in front for when you really need to shake those bowels loose. The megaphone is there so others can cater to any needs not already provided for.

The system is easily expanded upon, keeping future add-ons in mind, so that you don’t have much down-time. It comes in five configurations. 2,400 LED Pong table for gaming & dining

2,400 LED Pong table for gaming & dining
Pong has taken many strange twists and turns through our culture since the 70s and has somehow endured, despite it’s simple nature. Well, it’s back again and this time the game takes place on a table, allowing you to play and then dine. Or dine and then play a game for dessert. It’s from the mind of Moritz Waldemeyer. The table uses 2400 LEDs for display and has 2 trackpads.

Turned on, the trackpads let users control the paddles. Turn it off and it’s just a plain table again. It was part of MOMA’s Elastic Mind exhibit. I for one would love to see it go into production, but somehow I doubt it will. For one thing, it would force you to clear the table everytime you want a game and that’s just a bit too much if you love Pong and dining.

Wii balance board surfs Google Earth
A group of German students have somehow managed to use the Wii Balance Board from Wii-Fit to navigate their way around Google Earth. Specifically to surf Google Earth. Talk about a creative way to use a Wii accessory.

It’s really not all that impressive, and these guys are no Silver Surfer, but I guess it’s the first step in being able to fly or surf around the world virtually. And when that day comes, it will be sweet to do this in a nerd hero costume, while playing theme music. Video below.

Pet Plant lets plants express themselves

Pet Plant lets plants express themselves
We humans keep many other living things around us, like pets and plants. But the problem is that we can’t understand or communicate with these other beings. It would make life easier for the plant owner if the plant could just express itself. The Pet Plant by Junyi Heo allows your plants to do just that.

It’s a high-tech pot that will read soil conditions, temperature, humidity, and water. It makes calculations based on the need of the plant, and then expresses its condition through an LCD display. I’m guessing that means that if you nearly kill it, it will stare daggers at you so you feel really bad/scared for your life.

Cassette watch is all kinds of awesome

Cassette watch is all kinds of awesome
I don’t know who had the idea, but all I can say is that the end result is pretty awesome looking. It’s like wearing a mix tape on your wrist, without the often annoying music of the era. It’s made of sturdy stuff, namely stainless steel and features twin dials. One for hours, one for minutes.

The detail on the cassette face is really awesome and authetic looking. The hands almost look like they are advancing the tape. The only way it could possibly be any cooler is if it played real music, which it doesn’t. It will cost you about $70. Expect an 8-Track watch in the near future.

Sony DVP-NS708H

Sony in Europe is showing off a new upscaling DVD player which is pretty slim. It is called the Sony DVP-NS708H.

The Sony DVP-NS708H, like other upscaling DVD players, converts standard DVD video up to 1080p. The player itself is of a slim design, sporting a high-gloss black finish and compatibility with BRAVIA Sync to cut down on extra remotes lying around the media room.
