Ion VCR2PC VHS to digital video converter
Do you have boxes of old VHS tapes taking up space in a dark corner somewhere? They probably contain all sorts of precious moments, so you don’t want to throw them out. Now you can turn VHS tapes into formats readable by today’s digital media players thanks to the ION.

The Ion VCR2PC video player can hook up to your computer via it’s USB port. Just pick a VHS tape, put it in the player and hook up the player to your computer. When the tape finishes playing, you’ll have it in digital format. Of course, you can also use the player as a fully functional, cable-ready VHS player. It will cost you $250, and will keep your memories safe.

  2. kathy Says:

found it at Frontgate for $199.

  3. md Says:

Amazon has it for $175 but it has poor ratings

  4. Steve Says:

This is possibly the worst product, and the worst company I have ever patronized. I followed the ION AUDIO VCR2PC installation instructions perfectly, and the unit works, EXCEPT there is no detectable VIDEO!! It does not give you a video image. Their tech support number is long distance, no 800 line, and they only work 9-5. There is no mention of this product on their company page, No FAQ’s for this product, no general help info or troubleshooting for this product, NOTHING.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT. Go spend your hard earned money on something worth your time and effort.

  5. John Says:

I found it at Bed Bath and Beyond for $99 but Steve’s review saved me my $99.

  6. Barbara Says:

I 100 percent agree with Steve’s assesment of this product save your money and effort!!!!!!

  7. Mike Says:

I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond also for $99. I wasted an entire weekend trying to get it to work. It will not even load the drivers. Once I got it to sor of work work and it was so scratchy it was unacceptable. I tried it on all four of my computers and every USB port. I brought in a couple of “computer geeks” that I know and they could not get it to work either. This is a piece of junk. I’m returning it first thing in the morning. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

    This device works just fine.

  9. Kent Says:

Got mine for Christmas in the UK. It did not like using a USB extention cable, would not detect the device, but on removing the extendion the device was detected and the drivers loaded. When running the EZ VHS Converter software I was getting no video picture, I changed the Video Standard setting to PAL-I for the UK, but still no picture. After some messing around and a reread of the help files I found a bit that suggested using a USB port in the back of the PC, mine was plugged into the front. Plugged into a USB port in the back and everying started to work fine.

Could someone help me out? I am trying to convert my mother-in-law’s videos using the VCR2PC and though the video/audio quality is not perfect, it will do. The problem is that I am unable to them burn the mpeg’s to disc: the audio and video are no longer matched up properly. Is this because of the copy-protection on the VHS tapes? I am horribly confused, and despite the best efforts of multiple friends (using multiple dvd-creation software types), no one can figure this out! My email is bgsarah@aol.com if you can help!

  11. Pam Says:

Wish I’d seen Steve’s review. I tried to help a senior friend of mine, who had bought this same unit (calling it a unit is even questionable. I too have had all the same troubles. I did capture and get the digital image to play back on the program but could not burn to disk. The program could not differentiate my CD drive from the DVD drive. This caused my computer to crash and after the system recovery ran I still have problems. This was a nightmare, and also found out my dear friend paid $289 for this device and it is available online for $175.

  12. Christine Says:

I got one of these from Bed, Bath and Beyond at Christmas too. It was reduced from $199 to $99 and I had a 20% coupon so I got it for $80. I’ve not yet been able to get the thing working. I don’t have a PC so am using a Macbook Pro running XP under VMWare Fusion. The VMWare virtual machine says the VCR2PC unit is connected to a USB port and recognized. All the drivers have been installed, and yet when I run the software it says that there is no video input detected or the device is “in use” by another application. I’ve tried both USB ports to no avail. I have a feeling the issue is because the Macbook’s iSight camera is detected on the same bus as the USB ports that the XP software sees that first and so can’t see the VCR2PC box. I’ve tried disabling the iSight but no luck.

Anyone else got this bloody thing to work in VMWare Fusion?

  14. Andrew Culture Says:

Well I couldn’t even get the drivers installed! I’m using 64bit version of Vista home premium which won’t allow any unsigned drivers, and yup, almost ALL drivers are unsigned! I’m now trawling the web looking for new drivers, wish me luck!

  15. Andrew Culture Says:

Wa-hoo, I grabbed the right driver off their website and it works a treat now! http://www.ionaudio.com/vcr2pc

  16. maria Says:

I was able to transfer the VHS to the computer without any problems but then could not transfer the video onto a DVD. I called the company at 401-658-3743 and the gentleman I spoke to sent me an email to the computer that I have the VCR2PC installed on. The email had an attachment…a file VXBLOCK.dll which he told me to click and drag to the desktop. Then open Computer, the C drive, Program Files, Ion, then you see EZ VHS Converter. He then told me to drag the file VXBLOCK.dll from the desktop directly onto the EZ VHS Converter file. Then go to your videos in the VCR2PC program, Burn the disc and you should be good to go. I did that, the video burned onto the disc, I am now able to see it on the computer and on our TV through our DVD player.
And I bought mine at Bed Bath & Beyond for $99.00 less 20% so I am happy because I have 50 more tapes to go!!!

  17. Steve Callahan Says:

Question to Andrew Culture: I talked twice to the ION tech support folks and they assure me that VCR2PC does NOT work on 64-bit Vista. Your problem sounds exactly like mine. Just what driver did you get? Are you sure you’re on a 64-bit system?

  18. V.Jain Says:

Golly after reading these multiple problems, i gave up even trying to convert my 10 nos VHS-c tapes (on a JVC camcorder). I think i will pay the studios to do it, max will cost me $100, and then i wont have a black box gathering dust at home. I dont have IEEE link, and the cam corder has no USB outlet, just the old line line outs white for audio and yellow for video. Thanks for the reviews, you all saved me time. 19. Ash Says:

Maria the VHS tapes you copied to DVD were they copyrighted?
