Cool Boy portable game console is uncool
Here’s the latest in Chinese underground knock-offs. The “Cool Boy” wants to be a real living Gameboy so bad you can practically taste it. It manages to be completely un-cool despite the name and despite the fact that it’s a portable game system capable of playing a variety of old school 8-bit and 16-bit console titles.

Looks like the Cool Boy plays emulated NES and SEGA games. The kind you get from questionable sources in the dead of night, in a back alley, that usually have 120-in-1 cartridges that often violate copyrighted works from major game studios like EA, Nintendo and Disney. The system has a 2.4″ LCD screen with 480×240 resolution, and can even output to a TV via it’s built-in AV port.

iRiver E100 MP3 player is thin, kind of sexy
This isn’t your typical run of the mill MP3 player. It’s got stereo speakers, FM radio, a microSD card slot, line-in, and a new D-Click system. Then there’s the large 2.4-inch TFT LCD screen. Did I mention, it weighs just two ounces? This sweet MP3 Player is available in two capacities, a 4GB version and 8GB, both with flash memory. Some color choices are Solid Black, White, Sky Blue, and Pink.

You get a bunch of audio and video formats, Rhapsody, Napster, and Yahoo subscription services, voice recording, text viewer, photo viewer, and more. The battery will give you 5 hours of video playback or 17 hours of music. You wouldn’t expect it to be reasonably priced, but it is, at just $109.99 for the 4GB model or $159.99 for the 8GB version. Nice! You are getting a lot for your money.

Crazy trash can dancing bot is slightly insane
What if suddenly one day your trash can walked up to you on crab-like legs, told you jokes in a robo-voice, and tossed dice all over your floor like an insane maniac? Not to mention drumming on it’s own ass… I don’t know about you, but I’d be freaked out and kill it dead, thereby saving the human race from this maniac’s stand up routine. And you just know it plans to kill with that die flipping bit.(No pun intended)

It was created by Osaka-based Robot Force and named the Push-kun. It’s pretty pointless. What’s with the Evil Knieval jumpsuit paint job? Check out a video below to be thoroughly annoyed by this thing.

Potty Training Brick makes your dog pee
Needless to say, we here at the Brick are none too happy about this product. We’re not amused at all. There are some lines you simply don’t cross. To quote the late Jim Croce, “You don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit into the wind, you don’t pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger and you don’t mess around with Jim.” We’re adding, “You don’t pee on the Brick.”

This strange little “brick” is supposed to make it easy to train your dog to pee. There isn’t much information, but the Potty Training Brick is supposed to have a unique scent that makes dogs want to pee on it. It’s $20. You don’t piss on the brick! That’s all we have to say.

Dell listens to customers with the Vostro 1310 & 1510

Posted in Dell by Shane McGlaun on April 15th, 2008

Dell Vostro 1310Business users are typically more demanding of their notebooks than normal consumers. Business users tend to want portability, power and pretty much everything else. The boss approving the orders wants all that stuff too, but at a cheap price.

Dell says it has listened to its business customers and delivered everything they want with its new Vostro 1310 and 1510 notebooks. The 1310 notebook has a 13.3-inch screen and the 1510 is a 15.4-inch notebook. Dell says that the 13.3-inch Vostro has 94% of the viewing area of the 14.1-inch Vostro, but weighs 20% less.

IOGEAR DVI Extender goes 100 feet with one cable

Posted in HDTV by Darrin Olson on April 15th, 2008

IOGEAR DVI Extender kit sends signal 100 feet for under $500The new DVI Extender Kit from IOGear packs some serious high-def distance into a relatively affordable package. The DVI extender has the ability to send both a video and audio signal up to 100 feet away through a single CAT 5e/6 cable connection, and can be yours for just shy of $500.

Granted, $500 is getting close to the price of some decent high-def displays but if you have a nice system that you would like to keep away from high traffic areas or just out of the way this is a pretty sweet solution and is way better than trying to use a 100-foot DVI cable. The kit includes two boxes, the local and remote DVI extenders with the remote extender having a 3.5mm jack for connecting your stereo speakers at the other end.

UR-202 watch wound with compressed air
The UR-202 Hammerhead Automatic from Urwerk is a watch that demands your respect. It’s actually quite impressive. It features a unique winding system that’s regulated using compressed air. The 202 uses miniature twin turbines to control the rate of automatic winding and the level of air compression can be controlled using a 3-position selector switch.

The watch tells time in a unique way as well, using an elegant series of rotating hour blocks built around hands. They adjust their length to mark the minutes. The innovation here is pretty damn impressive. No pricing info and no date yet, but obviously this doesn’t come cheap. Check out a video below.

Vtech IS6110 cordless phone with QWERTY keypad & IM
Now, here’s a great way to introduce those, um, older folks to things like IM conversations and the like. You won’t need one of those smartphones the kids are using these days. Now you can do IM conversations via a landline telephone. That’s right, this is the industry’s first instant messaging cordless phone.

Don’t believe me? Just have a look at the full-fledged QWERTY keypad. The phone’s base station just has to be connected via USB to a PC, after which users can have free access to MSN Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger. Seriously, this is the best way to ease these old folks into the the modern era. It’ll only cost you $99.95.
