Kyocera KJ4 PrintheadI’m betting that I am not the only printer owner that feels like I have to wait an eternity to get my photos printed out from my inkjet printer. A faster printer that still produces good image quality would be great for many of us.

Kyocera announced a new printhead today that may help meet that goal called the KJ4 series. Kyocera calls that printhead the world’s fastest drop-on-demand inkjet print head. The device can print full 600 dpi color output at 150 meters per minute which is over five miles per hour.

If that’s not fast enough for you the printhead can also print 600 x 480 quality at 200 meters per minute. The KJ4 printhead is also the widest printhead in its class at 4.25-inches. Availability has been limited, but Kyocera says that the printhead will be available in bulk starting in April.
