Socket Communications has introduced something interesting in the new SoMo 650 handheld computer that uses anti-bacterial plastic in its construction. The handheld has a fast 624 MHz processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a large bright QVGA display, and plenty of SDRAM and Flash memory. The antibacterial SoMo 650 handheld computer and docking cradle will be available in fall 2008.

iPhone coming to Ireland with O2 March 14

The Apple iPhone will be launched in Ireland March 14 with O2.O2 has put out an official announcement that they will be bringing Apple’s iPhone to Ireland with the handset launching on March 14. Prices are listed at €399 ($590) for the 8GB model and €499 ($740) 16GB. Contracts range from 175 minutes a month up to 700 minutes and all come with 1GB of data transfer, with the pricing ranging from €45 ($67) to €100 ($148) for the 175 minute plan.

Apple’s Time Capsule is shippingFor anyone that had pre-ordered Apple’s Time Capsule appliance, AppleInsider has gotten word from a number of folks that the device is now shipping, making Jobs’ promise of a February ship date by just a day. This was indicated by credit cards being charged and online order statuses changing. Gizmodo has also gotten confirmation from Apple that the device is indeed shipping, bringing some wireless and automatic Time Machine backups to Macs everywhere.

Apple set the iPhone SDK announcement for next weekApple sent out invitations to reports this week for press announcement concerning the details of the iPhone SDK. Jobs said it would happen in February and the date is set for next week on March 6 which we’ll call close enough. The expected information will allow developers to create third party applications that will run on the iPhone and the iPod touch, ridding the need for the hack and fix battle that Apple has been dealing with this past year.
