Apple updates MacBook, MacBook Pro with Penryns and multi-touch |
Today Apple released a much anticipated upgrade to the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, bringing new faster processors, a mult-touch track pad and the same old physical look that they had before. The most significant update is that both the MacBook and the MacBook Pro got new Intel Penryn processing chips along with a few other changes to the notebooks; some good, some not so good.
These new chips could pump up processing speeds as much as 50% while simultaneously keeping your lap cooler and your battery lasting longer. The MacBook Pro also go that same new multi-touch track pad that the new MacBook Air sports, even though it’s slightly smaller. Apple says the MacBook Pro also has the option of a LED backlight for the 17-inch models. Both models also get the latest graphics processor from NVIDIA with up to 512MB of video memory.
The MacBook did also get the option of up to a 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Penryn processor but didn’t get any backlight or mult-touch. Also, likely to offset costs a little on something that most users didn’t take advantage of often, the Apple Remote that used to come standard with both laptops is now and add-on for another $19.
The MacBook and MacBook Pro with upgraded processors are both available now with the MacBook pricing starting at $1,099 and the MacBook Pro starting at $1,999.
