Sega genesis portable has arrived

We first told you about the Sega Genesis portable in November, coming from Tectoy. It appears that either it had a name change or someone else has beat them to it, basically cloning it.

Just like the Tectoy version, the AtGames Mega Drive Portable, the device comes pre-loaded with 20 classic games like Ecco, Sonic & Knuckles, Alex Kidd and Golden Axe. And just like the Tectoy version, you can’t download any extra games. But you can play them on your TV if you choose. The price is far cheaper then we first thought at $39. Apparently the sound leaves a bit to be desired, but still it should be good for getting your retro game on at a decent price.

  1. Erathoniel Says:

The Genesis had native portable versions, as well as various other versions.

  2. Nathan Says:

I have two versions of this, the Coleco/PlayPal and the AtGames ones. They’re not hard on the batteries, they DON’T reset themselves and easy on larger hands. So far I have played over 10 hours on one set of AAA’s and it’s still working. The Coleco/PlayPal is all black and a little thicker than the AtGames version. AtGames features a volume dial while the Coleco has settings via buttons.

All in all, they’re both very nice units.
