LA Auto Show: Chevy partners with Disney in Project Driveway |
Last night we heard rumors that there were going to be more than the announced 100 Chevy Equinox Fuel Cells available for drivers as part of Project Driveway. We didn’t get an exact number but were told there would be more than 110 vehicles for sure, and yesterday Bob Lutz announced that Disney would be getting 10 of those vehicles in a partnership with Chevy to test out the new fuel cell vehicles.
Disney will be getting 10 of the zero-emission hydrogen-powered vehicles and will use them internally to shuttle employees and talent around the Disneyland campus in California. Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like the will be transporting visitors so visiting Disneyland won’t get you a ride in one.
“This partnership joins two of the most forward-looking companies in America, and we’re glad that Disney, an organization well-known for envisioning a cleaner, advanced and more modern future could join us on this important project,” said Chevrolet general manager Ed Peper. “Our engineers will learn a great deal from the feedback they receive from Disney employees and other test drivers as we transform Chevrolet into a brand that offers fuel solutions ranging from gas-friendly to gas-free.”
Since the project is only running in a few select areas of the country where they have hydrogen refilling stations the chances of you getting in one are pretty slim but you can still experience owning the car vicariously through David Shelton, who is one of the few that have been chosen to test out the Equinox Fuel Cells. He’ll be getting 3-month trial vehicle starting in January and will be reporting back to SlipperyBrick from time to time on his experiences with owning a hydrogen powered car.
