Yelpie portable safe works better than your shoe |
This portable safe from Yelpie is a pretty smart idea to help keep your valuables safe while your outdoors and especially at activities like the beach. The small safe is portable enough to take with you but big enough to hold most of your smaller valuable items that you wouldn’t take into the drink such as keys, wallet or sunglasses.
I’ve always trusted the fact that if I put my valuables such as car keys and wallet in my shoe, it somehow defied the ability of even the most cunning of thieves. For extra protection I would push the items way down into the toe where no one would ever think to look, but I’ve been told this isn’t completely fool proof. While the Yelpie safe makes it pretty obvious that it indeed has values inside, it’s configured with some security measures to help ensure the valuables stay put.
It contains a lock driven by a keypad combination lock which can only be opened with the code you set. Once armed it activates a 90dB motion alarm that goes off whenever the safe is moved without entering the combination. Once the safe is set down the alarm will stop.
The Yelpie safe is weather resistant to stand up to a few light splashes or a little rain and has a strap to improve on its portability. The safe retails for around just over $100, but if that seems a little steep you might also want to check out the Doberman, giving a slightly louder alarm minus the safe.

one major design flaw… theives can just pick up and run off with the safe.
DUH.
I think the idea is that the loud audible alarm that goes off when its moved would hopefully stop the thief, or at least bring attention to them. But, by looking at the holes on top which is likely the speaker, I’m wondering if someone could just put their thumb over them to muffle the sound and walk away?
Hi,
My company is the one actually selling the device, and I can tell you that even holding your thumb, hand etc. over the speaker does not stop it being heard.
90dB is about as loud as your lawnmower - so it will draw attention is set off, and any theif would have to be awefully ambitious if they wanted to run off with the device going off like a police siren down the road.
We actually have a cheesy YouTube demo video if you’d like to take a look and see how it works in reality:
