TomTom ONE XL-S supports spoken street names

Posted in GPS, TomTom by Nino Marchetti on October 16th, 2007

TomTom ONE XL-SGPS products company TomTom is getting set to make available its first ONE XL device to feature text-to-speech for spoken street names. The new TomTom ONE XL-S will be priced at around $400.

The TomTom ONE XL-S will allow for street names to be told to it as part of providing driving directions. It will also work with TomTom’s MapShare technology, which lets one share map improvements made on the GPS unit and later uploaded to an online community. The ONE XL-S provides a touchscreen interface built into a 4.3-inch screen.

The TomTom ONE XL-S also has a “help” feature, which lets one find nearby emergency services as well as quickly providing exact location information on-screen. This GPS device should be available by the end of the month.

I’ve been using the ONE XL for some time now and have really liked it. I’m jealous the XL-S devices will have text-2-speech! That’s the king of features in the GPS world. I also like how TomTom is putting the Map Share and Help Me features on all their new devices now.
