Nintendo will be a Wii bit short for the holidays |
Since its launch last November the Nintendo Wii has consistently been the leader in the latest-generation game console sales and has been simultaneously behind the curve in having enough consoles to meet consumer demands.
In a recent interview with the San Jose Mercury News the Nintendo of America CEO Reggie Fils-Amie admitted that the company is not likely going to meet demands through this holiday season, either.
“We’re working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can’t guarantee that we’re going to meet demand,” said Fils-Amie. “As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record we won’t.”
In the interview Fils-Amie did not equate the lack of supply to a lack production potential, however. According to the CEO, Nintendo had an estimate of the amount of production necessary which ended up coming in “substantially low”, and bringing production up to a point where it meets the demand is not something that can be done quite quickly enough.
