Pentax Optio A40Pentax this week unveiled a new 12-megapixel, compact digital camera. The Pentax Optio A40 is priced at around $300.

The Pentax Optio A40 offers up a 1/1.7 inch CCD for a wider light receiving area. It is outfitted with three types of shake reduction - mechanical, digital, movie - to help with better shots under adverse photo taking conditions. There’s also a face recognition function with several modes which help better detect and focus on facial shots.

Other features of the Pentax Optio A40 include video recording at 30fps, a function which highlights subjects and maintains background tones, a 2.5-inch LCD monitor and 3x optical/6x digital zoom. The camera should be out in October.
