BT Baby Monitor 150 Plays MP3′s, Records Voice

Posted in Kids by Darrin Olson on September 3rd, 2007

BT Baby Monitor connects to an MP3 player, records voice and has a timer alertThe BT Baby Monitor 150 is set up with some advanced features not typically found in a standard monitor that actually seem fairly practical.

For starters the 150 is able to connect to your MP3 player and play back Hi-DS music, so you can download your infants favorite songs and play them through the monitor. Owners can also record their voice into the baby’s unit to play back at a later time giving the baby the familiar sound of your voice without having to get out of bed. If you do end up waking up the parent unit has a “talk back” feature that basically turns the monitor into a two-way radio, letting you talk to the monitor from the remote unit.

Transparent Toaster Concept

Posted in Concepts,Kitchen by Reuben Drake on September 3rd, 2007

Transparent Toaster ConceptMaybe it’s because many of us geeks heated up wires with electricity to create a make-shift toaster as our 5th grade science project, or possibly it’s that toast is one of the tried and true breakfast foods that we have trouble screwing up? Whatever the reason toasters seem to be a popular item with gadget lovers everywhere, despite a limited variety of designs available to consumers.

When we saw this transparent toaster concept we couldn’t help but share. It uses heated glass to burn a single piece of bread in plain view right before your eyes, eliminating all guessing as to what setting your toaster needs today to get it just right. How to clean it and where the crumbs go and how you get your toast out of it may still have to be worked out, but we’d be one of the first few in line to give it a try.

Waterproof mDrive Flash Drive from Gidis

Posted in Flash Memory,USB,Waterproof by Reuben Drake on September 3rd, 2007

Waterproof Mdrive USB flash drive from GidisWaterproof electronic devices just always seem kind of cool for some reason. Anytime you can take some electronic gadget under water and it still works, even when there is no need, automatically moves it up the “cool” list a few points.

A good example is the mDrive waterproof USB Flash drive from Gidis. The slim drive comes packaged in a CD jewel case with a smooth looking black and red Taegeuk design, but what’s most noteworthy is that its waterproof. We’re not sure just how many things you’re going to be able to actually plug this thing into when your under water but when a device comes along with a functional, underwater USB port, Gidis will be ready. Then again, this of course could be handy right after you’ve downloaded the secret documents onto it while on your secret spy reconnaissance mission, and then have to dive into the ocean in a narrow escape.

U-Suit Case for Non-Existent iPod?

Posted in Rumors,iPod Accessories,iPod Nano by Reuben Drake on September 3rd, 2007

iPod case manufacturer releases case for new video iPod before its announcedAccording to iLounge, a manufacturer named Uniea that makes cases for Apple products such as iPods and MacBook’s has now released a U-Suit branded case for an iPod that has not been announced yet..

The advertisement says the case is designed for the “New iPod” and bears the short, fat design that we’ve seen in a number of the rumored pictures. According to the report, the case “features a soft leather exterior, hard plastic interior with scratch-resistant inner lining, and a front hole sized for a roughly 2.3-inch screen and iPod nano-sized Click Wheel.” Maybe that screen won’t be too small to watch video’s on?

Wii Leading Japan Console Sales, but PS3 is Gaining

Posted in News,PS3,Wii,Xbox 360 by Chris Weber on September 3rd, 2007

Nintendo Wii leads game console sales for August but the Sony PS3 is closing the marginThe Nintendo Wii again has lead the game console sales in Japan selling 245,653 units in the first four weeks with the Sony PS3 trailing at 81,541 units. That’s about a 3 to 1 lead that Nintendo has over Sony’s console sales which is actually good news for Sony as that ratio has been shrinking the past couple months.

In June Nintendo sold around 6 times as many Wii’s compared to the Playstation 3 in the Japanese market, and in July that ratio dropped to about 4 to 1. The PS3 with its Blu-ray player has been behind Nintendo in console sales since they were introduced last year, likely due the PS3′s higher price and lack of popular game titles, but Sony’s plans for the coming months may help keep this trend going. The company is planning to add a number of games towards this holiday shopping season to hopefully entice more PS3 sales, including the very popular Gran Turismo 5 which will go on sale in October.

New Video iPod Nano Enhanced Rumor Pic

Posted in Apple,Rumors,iPod Nano by Reuben Drake on September 3rd, 2007

New “fatter” looking iPod Nano videoWe’ve seen a few different grainy photos of what might be a new video iPod Nano from Apple floating around the web, but here is the best quality one yet. We’re still chalking this one up to the “rumors” list but this photo fits the bill from what we’ve heard so far; appearing shorter with a small video screen that frankly may be just too small to watch videos on, anyway.

There’s a very good chance that this is the result of some skilled Photoshop work based on a hand holding the current Nano but either way I don’t think we’re going to have to wait long to find out as Jobs and the rest of Apple are still gearing up for some “The Beat Goes On” announcement on Wednesday. Keep watching…

Cowon Reveals iAudio U5 MP3 Player

Posted in Cowan,Media Players by Darrin Olson on September 2nd, 2007

Cowon iAudio U5 digital audio playerCowon introduced the iAudio U5 media player at IFA this week and while it has a slimmer and simpler design than the iAudio 7 that Cowon released in June, we don’t find the looks of the U5 quite as appealing.

The player is an audio player only, sporting a 1.8″ TFT LCD with 128×160 resolution and uses an on board equalizer to fine tune MP3 and WMA files. You can also use it to record the FM radio through a built-in tuner or do direct voice recording to the player through its microphone. The iAudio U5 has a rechargeable battery with as much as 20 hours of playback and comes in capacities of 2GB, 4GB and 8GB and can double as mass storage through a USB 2.0 connection.

ARCHOS 105 Mini Player Comes to the US

Posted in Archos,Media Players by Darrin Olson on September 1st, 2007

Archos 105 mini media playerArchos, maker of a number of cool, higher-end media players, is now bringing its smaller 5th generation Archos 105 to the U.S. adding to the already-high competition present in this mini media player market.

It comes in colors of black, red and silver and in only a single capacity configuration of 2GB. Inside the super-slim 0.3″ frame the player supports playback of MP3, WMA and WAV audio files. What really makes this player is the fact that it also takes advantage of a 1.8” OLED display at 160 x 128 dpi with 262,000 colors to play WMV files so you can take your recorded TV episodes with you. And of course you can view still JPEG’s with it, too.

Faster than the eye

Posted in Casio,Digital Cameras by Chetz on September 1st, 2007

Casio to release high speed camera with pictures at 60 fps or video at 300fpsCasio Computer made an announcement yesterday in Berlin at the IFA, a consumer electronics trade show, that pushes the envelope outward as to how fast digital camera speeds can be. The company showed off its latest invention, a camera that can take a burst of 60 frames per second at its most maximum resolution or take VGA quality video at 300 frames per second (that’s faster than the human eye can see) thanks to a high-speed LSI image processing chip inside of it. There is also a feature called Pre-shot Burst Mode which will also record a sequence of images just before your finger presses the button, just in case something happens in the moment before you thought it was going to happen.

Iron tough drive

Posted in Flash Memory,USB,Waterproof by Chetz on September 1st, 2007

Ironkey USB ThumbdriveIf you are looking for the ultimate in security for a new thumb drive take a gander at the IronKey, the military’s solution to keeping their secrets safe. The IronKey is made to be both tough physically as well as data attacks.

For starters it encrypts your password using 256-bit AES and then encrypts that info a second time using 128-bit encryption. It may sound like overkill but heck why not do it? If a hacker wants to try and guess your password they only get 10 tries before the IronKey destroys all of the data it contains. If the villain tries to pop the drive open and get at the chips inside he will have a next-to-impossible task pulling it out in one piece since the guts are coated with an epoxy and would gum up the removal process.

Sony Rolly Video Has Strange, Music Loving Gadget

Posted in Rumors,Sony, music by Darrin Olson on September 1st, 2007

Sony Rolly video shows off strange looking rolling, dancing device that responds to musicThe Sony Rolly is something that’s got a lot of people talking about Sony, which may be the whole point of the device, whether its real or not. This Miuro look-a-like (which interestingly we reported on exactly one year ago), appears to respond to music by rolling and “dancing” around on the floor. From the video it looks football shaped and can move forward or back, turn, spin, has some “wings” that open on the sides like little arms when it dances along with some glowing lights that change color as it moves.

There really isn’t any information about the Rolly available aside from this strange video, which again might be intentional by Sony. Engadget was able to contact at least one Sony representative about the product who neither confirmed nor denied any information about it. They did however say that it had nothing to do with any recent product releases from Sony. Take a look at the video after the jump and see what you think:
