Microsoft to launch Extenders for the Vista Media Center to enhance the multi-room television experienceIf you keep hoping that the day will come when you can stop your TV broadcast in mid-stride and pick it up again from a different room there is a company located in Redmond, WA that you should know about. It’s called Microsoft.

The software giant is hoping on the day after the big Apple news to steal a little bit of the tech crowd’s attention with its announcement of Extenders for Windows Media Center, a range of applications for Windows Vista that Microsoft promises will make it easier for you to have media convergence in your home.

The Big M didn’t cough up too many details except to say that you will know all shortly as well as a full list of what cool apps we’ll be able to buy for our networks at home. Already Microsoft is promising that the Extenders will be capable of supporting new audio and video codec formats like DivX and Xvid, recognizing a variety of DVD players, TVs, wireless networks and other related home theater hardware and being able to transmit encrypted HD content across rooms.

Linksys, D-Link and Niveus are three companies that are working on some of these Extenders now with more companies to follow. Microsoft will be demoing the Extenders at Denver’s CEDIA Expo 2007 beginning today and running all through the week and into Sunday.
