Bizarre Creations Acquired By Activision

Posted in Activision, Games, News by Chris Weber on September 26th, 2007

Bizarre Creations bought by ActivisionToday the Liverpool-based Bizarre Creations, one of the largest formerly-independent developers in the UK who are well-known for the Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars series, announced that they are becoming part of Activision alongside the companies other studios. In the announcement Bizarre assures us that this isn’t some act of desperation from a failing studio, but more a strategic move the help bring their games up to the “next level”. Bizarre Creations also states that they will continue to remain intact with no redundancies and that Activision will have a “hands off” way of running things.

As a result of becoming part of Activision, Bizarre becomes a truly multiplatform studio expanding the platforms that future games can be built o. The two main game teams are already starting on a couple new Activision titles: one racing game and one character game with more details to come. Everything else is still going as originally planned with Geometry Wars continuing to expand and The Club and Geometry Wars Galaxies being launched with SEGA and Sierra, respectively.

This overall looks like a positive move for both Bizarre and Activision, and hopefully Activision’s “hands off” policy will allow Bizarre to continue and move ahead with their success.
