Beo 5 Remote Control Is Like No Other

Posted in Bang & Olufsen, Remotes by Reuben Drake on September 6th, 2007

Beo 5 Remote control from Bang & OlfusenBang and Olufsen puts out some of the coolest, different looking (and most expensive) stuff; take this Beo 5 Remote Control for example. Like a number of B&O’s things, this looks like no other remote control we’ve seen. Combining control of your A/V system along with a little home automation the remote control is said to be simple and very functional.

It’s built with a square glass display on top that shows dynamic menus and has “soft touch” on the screen. The bottom consists of an aluminum ball shape with a flat back and tactile keys on the front along with a circular scrolling volume wheel. The Beo 5 sits in a cradle when not in use to charge, and lights up whenever touched, ready for use.

The remote also connects with Bang and Olufsen’s Link System that lets you control devices throughout the whole house, seperated by “zones” visually on the remote. The display on this intelligent remote control can also duplicate the menus that display on the television, showing them on the remote instead of obstructing views on the TV for everyone, and it even displays appropriate icons for the different stations so you don’t have to remember channel numbers. The control wheel on the “ball” portion of the remote has more common, static buttons such the volume wheel, play, stop, back, forward and menu directional navigation buttons.

This remote has many more features for the fully connected home, but also as with many of B&O’s things, the Beo 5 Remote Control didn’t come with any information yet on price or when you can get your hands on one, but you can bet that it won’t be cheap.
