Apple iPod classicEven as Apple rolled out the iPod touch and new nano today the more basic model which started it all got a facelift and a new name. Apple is now making available the sixth-generation iPod, called now the iPod classic, for $249 for a 80GB model and $349 for a 160GB model.

That’s right - the first thing you’ll note with the iPod classic is the increased hard drive sizes. They are housed in a new all-metal anodized aluminum and polished stainless steel enclosure which is thinner than previous generations. The user interface has also been enhanced and includes the ability to browse music via cover art.

Battery time is marked as up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback in the 160GB model, and up to 30 hours of music playback and five hours of video playback in the 80GB model. The 160GB model in particular can hold upwards of 40,000 songs - do you have that many lying around?
