Fake Steve Jobs blogger a mystery no more

Posted in News by Chris Weber on August 6th, 2007

Dan Lyons of Forbes unmasked as fake Steve Jobs bloggerFake Steve Jobs has been entertaining readers for over a year with his blog targeting the Apple chief executive (the real Steve Jobs) among other prominent names in silicon valley, and after all this time of anonymity has been outed by Brad Stone, a report for the New York Times.

Stone said he saw similarities in the writing style between the Fake Steve Jobs and Dan Lyon’s own blog, and first started to put two and two together through a satirical novel to be published, written by a writer for a “major business magazine” in the same voice of Fake Steve Jobs.

The Fake Steve Jobs blog saw over 700,00 visitors in July and was admittedly read by the likes of Bill Gates and of course Steve Jobs himself. According to Lyons’ latest post, he is going to take a break for a few days from The Secret Diary of Fake Steve Jobs and then come back “badder than ever” with the blog being officially part of the Forbes.com website.

He also left us with a bit of humor at his identifiers expense, wanting to use “brad” as a verb to mean either “To bust a fellow filthy hack without mercy and spoil the fun for everyone, in a quest for personal aggrandizement” or as a second definition, “To urinate in a pool“.
