The latest firmware update 1.9 for the PlayStation 3 was just released in Japan and will most likely come the U.S.’s way in the very near future. Kotaku has the details of what’s available in the new upgrade which looks like nothing real spectacular; a few menu changes and minor tweaks. The ability to change the video settings mid-game is pretty cool and it’s nice to see some customization available with the different background and emoticons. Here’s a breakdown of the additions/changes for the latest PS3 firmware upgrade:

• Ability to rearrange games on the XMB
• Option menu now includes "eject disk"
• Press triangle to eject games/CDs/movies in the XMB
• XMB backgrounds
• Change the folder classification
• Emoticons
• Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz
• Force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI
• Change video settings in-game
• "Bit Mapping" in the "Music Setting"
• Save AVCHD type animations from a Memory Stick
• Change settings like upscaling while playing PS and PS2 games
• Add bookmarks
• Web browser security function in the browser’s tool selection
