June game sales dominated by NintendoThe NPD data for June game sales are in and it looks as if Nintendo continues to wallop the competition with both its latest generation Wii game console and the handheld DS. In June Nintendo sold 381,800 Wii game consoles which was nearly twice as much as its nearest competitor Microsoft, selling 198,400 Xbox 360′s. Sony’s Playstation 3 came in 3rd for the full-size latest-generation consoles with 98,500 units. This is the sixth month in a row that Nintendo has had the lead in current-generation game console sales with this months margin holding steady. All three companies saw an increase in sales from May with the PlayStation 3 count increasing by 16,900, the Xbox 360 seeing a 43,500 unit jump and the Wii increasing its monthly sales by 43,500 units, as well. We didn’t see any PS2 numbers in this report which is surprising since the PS2 has been a dominating console for the first part of the year.

The Wii isn’t the only console that’s rocking the market for Nintendo, though. In June the company also sold a whopping 561,900 handheld DS’s which was the most of any one console for the month. The Sony PlayStation Portable also did well for the month with their recent price drop coming in at 230,100 units sold. We’re guessing July won’t be quite as good due to everyone holding out for the newer, slightly slimmer PSP.

The game sales for June also go to Nintendo with “Wii Mario Party 8″ bringing in 426,000 in sales followed up by the “Wii Play w/Remote” which teaches the techniques of using the motion sensitive Wii Remote with a set of different simple games. The remaining eight spots for game sales in June went as follows:

3. NDS Pokemon Diamond Version 288,400
4. NDS Pokemon Pearl Version 214,700
5. 360 Forza Motorsport 2 197, 400
6. PS2 Guitar Hero 2 w/ Guitar 197, 350
7. 360 Guitar Hero 2 w/ guitar 177,600
8. Wii Pokemon Battle 157,900
9. Wii Resident Evil 4 N/A
10. 360 The Darkness N/A
