InFoucs Play Big IN82InFocus has long been known as a high end name in the projection market. While focused mainly on business, it has also unveiled over time some consumer products. The newest announced today looks to be the most interesting yet.

The InFocus Play Big IN82 is what InFocus is billing as the its first 1080p DLP home theater projector. It’s the highest performing, single-chip projector of its type in the company’s history, according to InFocus. There’s plenty of great home theatre technology here to keep video projection movie hounds happy, including Texas Instruments DarkChip 3 technology and a contrast ratio which can be adjusted as desired from 4000:1 to 12000:1. Nice!

This projector, which has rather nice curves, has HDMI 1.3 support, 1,500 max ANSI lumens and a lot more. It’s priced at around $5,500 and will be available in September. Now if I only had a home theatre room to use it in…

Don’t other projectors already have these features? (NEC NP1000 - NP4000)

Also the contrast ratio isn’t really that impressive since the test they use doesn’t measure normal usage moving images, but static extremes. See http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/contrast-ratio.html . Theres actually nothing really new other than the 1900×1080 res which I think is the first 16:9 ratio that goes that high. It also looks cool, which in all fairness is a good reason to have a posting about it.
